Can you believe it’s been almost 30 years since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons lab, and then Jim woke up from his coma only to find an empty hospital, and then, well, you know the rest. Now it is almost 3 decades later, and Danny Boyle is bringing the dead back with 28 Years Later.
Set in an unrecognizable Britain, small groups of uninfected people have learned to endure while living within a world of the infected. The film follows a community of people on Lindisfarne, a tidal island sheltered by a heavily defended passage. The story follows Jamie, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson of Nosferatu, and his 12-year-old son Spike, played by Alfie Williams of His Dark Materials, as they venture off the island. Why would they do that?
Their world is torn apart when they discover a terrifying truth: the virus has evolved, making the original infected look tame in comparison.
Jodie Comer of The Bikeriders plays Isla, a pregnant woman battling against extinction, while Ralph Fiennes of Red Dragon and The Menu plays the mysterious Dr. Kelson, a man with more secrets than answers.
The film explores humanity’s perfect hell, a world where the infected don’t just kill the infected and die—they adapt, evolve, and patiently wait.
Be sure not to miss this summer’s most feared cinematic nightmare when it is released exclusively in theaters on June 20, 2025. Just remember: the infected don’t run anymore—they wait.
