Haunted Houses in Maine
Stephen King! Need we say more? Not only does the "King of Horror" set many of his novels in this spooky state, but he also resides here. What is it about Maine that has made Stephen King so, well, Stephen King?
It could be the 15 haunted lighthouses, like the Seguin Island Light Station, where it is said that the lighthouse keeper murdered his wife and himself with an ax! Not cool. Or it could be Fort William Henry, an American Revolution-era fort near New Harbor, where Native American Chief Taukolexis was hung from a tree outside the fort in 1696. Many souls have said to see the chief as a white orb at the entrance to the fort.
From haunted prisons and forts to spooky bridges and even ponds, Maine is sure to keep the shivers running down your mere mortal spine.
