Massachusetts is the most populous state in all of New England, and it’s also the most haunted as well. Partially situated on the Atlantic Ocean, the Bay State has one of the most chronicled and lengthy histories of any state in the Union.
The most famous is the area of Plymouth that was founded in 1620 by the Pilgrims, who had discovered Native Americans in the nearby lands. The area of Plymouth has the John Carver Inn. This particular inn doubled as a medical school in the Revolution-era, but was shut down once it was discovered that grave robbers plundered the cemeteries and took the bodies back to the inn. Haunted Marriott Courtyard Norwood Several guests have reported seeing the ghostly figure of a very tall man appear out of nowhere in their room at night. The ghostly figure looms over you at nearly 7 feet tall and is said to be the ghost of an athlete who hung himself in one of the hotel rooms on the first floor. One of Boston’s most haunted locations is the Parker House. If you want to encounter the spooky residents, reserve a room on the third floor. A 19th-century actress, Charlotte Cushman, famous for playing male and female roles including Hamlet and Lady Macbeth, died in one of the third-floor rooms in 1876. Elevators travel to the third floor when no buttons are pushed. Charlotte may be the culprit. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, mental health was broadly defined. Health conditions and mental capacities simply had yet to be discovered by medical science and as a result, thousands of people were not handled with enough care and concern. While highly debatable, their life-care was turned over by their families to the aid afforded by the state and they were placed into asylums.
