The French Lick Springs Hotel in Indiana has the distinction of being the most haunted building in the state. Paranormal activity on the sixth floor is standard. Eerie occurrences have happened on the seventh floor too. The staff has reported hearing dancing and music emanating from the empty ballroom.

Workers on the overnight shift hear unexplained noises, phones in unoccupied rooms ring, and cold spots indicate that a spirit is present. One evening a guest came out of the bathroom to see a ghostly apparition of a man dressed in black. While she watched, he disappeared into the closet.

Most paranormal activity centers around a bellhop named Charlie, who died in an elevator shaft. Guests have reported flashing lights and occurrences in the theater. An actor speaking a monologue was delivered lines by an unseen presence, believed to be Charlie. The elevator shaft where he fell was nearby. Stay at the French Lick and you may just meet Charlie.

There’s no escaping ghostly apparitions when you stay at the Jailer’s Inn Bed & Breakfast. The inn is on the Travel Channel’s “Ten Most Haunted Places in the United States” list. Some of the country’s most violent criminals were locked up there, so there’s hardly a spot where a ghostly sighting hasn’t been reported.

One of the spirits is Mrs. McKay, who was married to the jailer. When her husband passed away, she ran the jail. She’s not a powerful entity but frightens guests when they awaken at night, and she’s staring at them.

The courtyard where hangings took place is one of the most haunted areas. One guest had a conversation with a man he encountered in the yard. The guest turned his head and when he looked back the man had disappeared. The spirits, staff, and guests all seem to get along harmoniously, and the paranormal activity continues.

The Broadview Hotel dates back to 1922. Despite its classic appearance, it’s one of Wichita’s scariest locations. The hotel was the scene of a tragic murder/suicide when a guest named Clarence found out his wife was unfaithful. In desperation, Clarence killed his wife then jumped from the hotel balcony. Clarence is the most active of the spirits and makes his presence felt in many ways.

Other spirits in the hotel have caused disturbances. Ghost hunters have picked up EVPs. Spirits move furniture around. Lights in guest rooms are turned on and off by unseen entities and cold spots have been reported.
