Some of the country’s most violent criminals were locked up there, so there’s hardly a spot where a ghostly sighting hasn’t been reported. One of the spirits is Mrs. McKay, who was married to the jailer. When her husband passed away, she ran the jail. The hotel was the scene of a tragic murder/suicide when a guest named Clarence found out his wife was unfaithful. In desperation, Clarence killed his wife then jumped from the hotel balcony. Clarence is the most active of the spirits and makes his presence felt in many ways.
