The Exorcist: Martyrs
The latest in the long-running and legendary Exorcist franchise is set to come out on March 12th, 2027. It’s being directed by Mike Flanagan, best known for his work like The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and Doctor Sleep.
The film stars Scarlett Johansson as Julie Miller, an NYPD detective whose past comes back to haunt her 13 years after she helped stop the reign of Father Sunday, a satanic serial killer. A new wave of ritualistic murders, and the killer scrawling Julie’s name in blood at the scene, bring her into the investigation.
Unlike many past Exorcist films, this one doesn’t begin with a child or family being possessed by a demon. However, this new blend of horror and crime procedural is still sure to scare anyone who dares sit down to watch it.
River
River is an upcoming slasher flick that’s scheduled to theatrically release on January 15th, 2027. It’s the directorial debut of Joshua Giuliano, who also wrote the film, and stars Jane Levy, Jessica Rothe, and Max Mattern as three estranged siblings who have reunited to scatter their fathers’ ashes near a remote river.
However, they end up stranded on a broken boat, being agonized and tormented by a killer that has emerged from the woods. This forces them to put their differences aside and work together to fight back and escape.
The film seems to combine family drama and tension, alongside the classic slasher trope of the main characters being isolated and unable to find help. It promises to be a suspenseful watch that’s sure to make going out in nature a little scarier in the future.
The Revenge of La Llorona
Like its prequel, The Curse of La Llorona, which came out in 2019, The Revenge of La Llorona is based on the Latin American folklore of La Llorona, or the Weeping Woman. According to the legend, La Llorona roams near bodies of water, mourning her children that she drowned. Anyone who hears her wailing is said to suffer misfortune, death, or have an unsuccessful life.
This supernatural film draws on this legend, as a grieving mother’s ancient curse targets a family and forces them to look at their own hidden past. Also, while this film isn’t considered a separate installment in The Conjuring franchise, it takes place within its universe.
It comes to theaters on February 26th, 2027, is directed by Santiago Menghini, and stars Monica Raymund, Jay Hernandez, and Raymond Cruz.
Paranormal Activity 8
Ever since the franchise debuted in theaters back in 2009, fans have loved Paranormal Activity for its found-footage and documentary style, which brings a frightening sense of realism to the films. Nearly 20 years later, the 8th installment of the franchise, simply called Paranormal Activity, is coming to theaters on May 21st, 2027.
While not much is known about the plot or plans for the film, it’s said to bring the franchise back to its roots. In fact, it’ll take viewers back to the iconic house where the original film took place, adding a sense of nostalgia to the slow burns, jump scares, and suspense that Paranormal Activity is known for.
The film is written and directed by Ian Tuason, the writer and director of Undertone, and stars Chase Yi, Sonia Mena, and Maya da Costa.
If you’re a fan of near-silent suspense, tension, and creature horror, A Quiet Place Part III should be on your list for 2027. John Krasinski has returned to direct and write the film, which is set to release on July 30th, 2027, and it features a star-studded cast including Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, and others.
The film follows the Abbott family and those around them as they attempt to survive in a post-apocalyptic world that’s crawling with extraterrestrial creatures that can’t see, but have a heightened sense of hearing. Shiver
Coming out on August 13th, 2027, Shiver is a science fiction thriller that’s set in the Caribbean Sea, as a smuggler, played by Keanu Reeves, gets stranded in deadly waters and needs to contend with both sharks and mercenaries, while also being stuck in a time loop that he needs to escape.
With the film being directed by Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool, and featuring Reeves as the lead, many people expect this film to be a blend of thrilling action, sci-fi elements, and suspense. It may be a different vibe than many of the other horror films coming out, but if you like your frights to be fast-paced, unpredictable, and action-packed, this may be for you.
The Conjuring: First Communion
Directed by French director Rodrigue Huart, The Conjuring: First Communion is the newest film in the legendary The Conjuring Universe, which has grossed over $2.5 billion, making it the highest-grossing horror franchise of all time.
While a detailed plot of the film hasn’t been shared yet, First Communion is set to be a prequel and will likely take us through the early days and formative years of Ed and Lorraine Warren. It’s unknown if franchise legends Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will make an appearance at all in the film.

Untitled Blair Witch Project Movie
Few films have done as much for the found-footage genre and style of horror movie as the original Blair Witch Project did. The fear of the unknown and unseen that it was able to achieve, and the fact that it had many audiences guessing if it was real, truly highlight how innovative it was in the space.
On September 24th, 2027, an untitled Blair Witch film is scheduled to release, and fans everywhere are excited for what it may look like. Plot details are scarce, but it’s fair to assume it’ll be full of terrifying and tense found footage, feature unsettling environments, and heavily lean on the fear of the unseen.
The film is set to be directed by Dylan Clark, who is best known for his viral horror short films on YouTube.
Seasons
Seasons is a supernatural horror film based on a story written by Matt and Harrison Query called My Wife and I Bought a Ranch. The story first appeared on Reddit and soon went viral. The premise of the story is that a husband and wife purchase a ranch, which they soon find out is occupied by ancient spirits that require the couple to perform disturbing rituals with each new season in order to survive.
The film, which is set to release on November 12th, 2027, stars Lily James, Jack Reynor, and Ron Perlman, and is directed by Drew Hancock.
