The Plaza Guest House located in Provincetown, Massachusetts, has earned a title of being a haunted house due to the many strange occurrences and sightings guests have experienced there. Some guests have reported seeing people in old-fashioned clothing walking the halls of the guest house and especially in Room #006. On the same floor, there are reportedly bloodstains that will not go away no matter how many times the floor is polished. Even more eerily, some people report having had objects thrown at them by unseen forces, seeing doors opening and closing by themselves and being chased by a glowing apparition.

To make matters even more interesting, dogs and cats supposedly will not cross the threshold of Room #006. Although there is no historical evidence of foul play in the guest house, the bloodstains and many apparitions do cause one to wonder whether something unsavory occurred there in the past. To date, only one apparition at the Plaza Guest House has ever been identified, and that is the one of Zeke Cabal. Zeke was reportedly the town drunk back in the 1920s, and his ghost was said to have been seen crouching behind the living room desk of the guest house. Zeke’s spirit is reportedly shy, and that’s why he’s seen crouching behind the desk, trying to stay out of view.

Most bed and breakfasts are built with the original intentions of being an inn for weary travelers, however the Beechwood Inn of Cape Cod, Massachusetts originally was not purposed for this. The Beechwood itself was actually a private home residence between 1853 all the way up to 1980. Once sold, it was fashioned into a bed and breakfast to help capitalize on the frequent tourist and vacation industry that was locally popular. For a place that has been open less than forty years, it already has a haunted reputation.

The Haunted Beechwood Inn

The spirits inside the Beechwood is unconventional in their behavior. Light bulbs unscrew from their sockets, while shower curtain rods have been completely removed while guests are in their rooms with absolutely no noise at all. Guests are also frequently locked out of their own rooms, and sometimes objects in their rooms have mysteriously relocated, requiring a small search to find them.

The owners have affectionately taken to calling her “The Mischievous Lady”, after all of the subtle ghostly behavior she puts herself up too. Her spirit has appeared in locations all over the Beechwood’s property and she is said to give off a peculiar white light whenever she manifests. However, few guests have reported hearing a chirpy, “good morning” said to them out of nowhere with nobody around! The owners chalk it up to the spirit living up to her reputation as a lady and guests leave the Beechwood well rested and supernaturally impressed.

One of Boston’s most haunted locations is the Parker House. If you want to encounter the spooky residents, reserve a room on the third floor. A 19th-century actress, Charlotte Cushman, famous for playing male and female roles including Hamlet and Lady Macbeth, died in one of the third-floor rooms in 1876. Elevators travel to the third floor when no buttons are pushed. Charlotte may be the culprit.

Room 303 had to be closed and renovated for use as a closet after complaints from guests about loud laughter and the odor of whiskey. The room is where a businessman met an untimely end. Harvey Parker, who founded the hotel, died in 1884. Apparently, Mr. Parker is still keeping an eye on his hotel, since he’s surprised some guests in their rooms to inquire about their visit.

Is Salem’s Hawthorne Hotel haunted?

The Hawthorne Hotel is ranked as one of the most haunted hotels in America. Guests have frequently reported moving furniture, sightings of a ghostly woman, unexplained noises and crying and more. The show Bewitched even filmed an episode in one of the elevators during the 70s and in 1990 the hotel held a seance in the Grand Ballroom to try and contact Harry Houdini.

The Hawthorne Hotel was established in 1925 in the heart of Salem, Massachusetts. Frank Poor was the founder who created what he would call a “modern hotel for the business traveler” in the roaring 20s. Presidents and dignitaries have visited the hotel over the years and it holds a spot on the Historic Hotels of America national trust.

What rooms of the Hawthorne Hotel are haunted?

Room 325 is easily the most haunted room in the hotel and one of the most requested too. Many believe the room is home to the ghost of a baby or a toddler because they wake to hear the sounds of a child crying in the wee hours of the morning. Though some might scoff or find a reasonable explanation for the crying, most cannot explain why so many children who stayed in the room told their parents about hearing a baby’s cries waking them in the middle of the night. Guests also found that the faucet in the bathroom turned itself on and off, and other guests woke to the feeling of something abruptly pulling their sheets and blankets off the bed.

Guests and workers feel leery about room 612 at the hotel as well. A young woman staying at the hotel saw another woman in a long white dress wandering down the sixth-floor hallway with a disturbed look on her face before stopping at the door to room 612. After pausing to unlock her own door, she turned to offer the woman help and found the woman gone. Other guests have reported the same woman standing outside the door to 612. Multiple workers refused to clean the inside of the room because of the uncomfortable feeling they get while working in the spooky room.

Guests staying in room 612 often get the feeling of someone touching them. They feel an icy cold hand touch their shoulders or arms, and some guests even felt the spirit lightly tug on their hair or clothing.

Ghosts abound on the lower floors too. Workers sometimes find that someone or something moves the furniture around the lobby and other parts of the first floor. One worker, who was responsible for rearranging furniture in a first-floor room to make space for a group meeting, came back minutes later to find all the furniture back in the original places in the room.

Visitors often refer to Salem, Massachusetts as one of the most haunted places in the world, which might explain some of the ghosts walking the Hawthorne Hotel.
