Haunted 1858 Garnett House Hotel in Garnett, Kansas Built in 1858, The Garnett House origins were as a hotel. It was the first hotel in Garnett, Kansas and is the only surviving antebellum structure in the town. Garnett House has operated in several capacities such as a residence, a school, a Doctor’s office, and hotel. The outlaw Jesse James was rumored to have stayed in the hotel as an alias at times. Several other famous documented guests include Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickock, Buffalo Bill Cody, Belle Starr and Bat Masterson. Read more…

The Timberline Lodge AKA The Overlook Hotel from The Shining Timberline Lodge sits in Mount Hood National Forest in the state of Oregon. The hotel is most recognized as the hotel that was used for the exterior hotel shots for the Stanley Kubrick version of The Shining starring Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duvall. The film was based on Stephen King‘s novel of the same name. King and Kubrick did not see eye to eye on creative decisions for The Shining, but regardless the movie remains a classic. Read more…

H.H. Holmes Murder Castle Dr. Henry Howard Holmes, born Herman Webster Mudgett, was born in 1861 in Gilmanton, New Hampshire. Mudgett was born to a wealthy family and was considered to have above-average intelligence. He assumed the alias H.H. Holmes when he started his career as a con artist, committing numerous frauds and scams before becoming known as one of America’s first and most prolific serial killers. Read more…

The Haunted Whaley House Bad omens had been following the Whaley family for years. Long before the tragic deaths of Thomas Jr. and young Violet, who took her own life in the parlor of the home. Nevada’s notorious Clown Motel sits between Reno and Las Vegas on highway 95 in the small town of Tonopah. The town of Tonopah was once a booming mining town with nearly 50,000 residents. It now sits at population of 2,500 and much of the town appears deserted. Most of Tonopah’s residents work for the military test range, which is just one of the things that makes this place so eerie. One guest is no longer a skeptic after staying at this hotel. A couple was asleep when the woman woke to something like a dog, walking back and forth on her pillow. She tried to wake her partner who was in a deep sleep. The next morning when she started telling him what happened, he stared at her. She thought he didn’t believe her until he said the same thing happened to him, and he was so terrified he didn’t move or try to wake her. Read more…

The most well known of the ghosts at the Omni Homestead Resort is a bride from the early 20th-century who took her life when her fiance disappeared on their wedding day. She is seen walking through the hallways on the 14th floor stopping guests to ask them what time it is. Apparently, she’s hoping that her fiance will return to the hotel, and she’ll finally have her happy ending. If you stay at the resort, you may just encounter this sad spirit. Read more…

Minnesota’s Haunted St. James Hotel It’s not often that a hotel embraces its haunted past. Many hotels will rebuke the lore of ghost sightings and paranormal activity. Red Wing, Minnesota’s St. James Hotel embraces it. Ask for the haunted rooms and they’ll direct you to the 3rd floor. Room 310 is Clara’s room, the ghost of Clara Lillyblad who owned the hotel from 1932 to 1972.
