One of the ghosts is reported to bake from beyond as the smell of bread fills the air at five in the morning. People have invested to find everyone in the house fast asleep, and the ovens are as cold as the grave the bread comes from. Fourth floor guests also often report hearing the creepy sounds of a string quartet, and the otherworldly group plays day and night. Opened in 1895 by Ephraim Wells, the inn was originally built to provide a place for oil barons and upper-class citizens to relax. The founder is said to haunt this historic location, and the most haunted room is 324. The story goes that a maid went to clean the room, and she found the door stuck and was unable to open it. Each time she pulled the door open, it sucked itself shut as if someone was on the other side shutting the door. The Haunted Blennerhassett Hotel in Parkersburg, West Virginia Old-world charm and a ghostly presence are what guests experience at the Blennerhassett. One of the spirits is that of William Chancellor, the former mayor. The mayor’s portrait was taken down when the hotel was being renovated, and he expressed his displeasure by dropping in unexpectedly on guests. When the restoration was complete, the visits stopped.
