Real Haunts in West Virginia

This Inn first came to life in 1839 when Andrew Stockton got a license to entertain stagecoach traffic. It also likely served as a makeshift hospital during the Civil War from 1863 to 1865. People who have stayed at the inn report the experience as playful, whimsical and fun. Perhaps they are meeting with “The Colonel,” who is said to haunt the premises. Opened some time from 1901 to 1904, the The Historic Lowe Hotel has had sightings on the second to third floor. The third floor is the most active, with a former maid, a captain and a bearded man. Fourth floor guests also often report hearing the creepy sounds of a string quartet, and the otherworldly group plays day and night. Is the General Lewis Inn haunted? The Historic General Lewis Inn is a known haunted location that houses three or more ghosts. The most haunted rooms are reported to be rooms 202, 206 and 208. If you book one of these rooms, expect to have an unpleasant night’s sleep. Crying, laughing and generally disruptive ghosts haunt these rooms. Several entities are known to walk the streets of Harpers Ferry at night. They tend to be most active when nobody is around, so be sure to go late at night when the living are sleeping. Built in 1898 by Eugene Elihu Hutton, the Hutton House Bed and Breakfast was built on top of a two-story log cabin. One of the ghosts is reported to bake from beyond as the smell of bread fills the air at five in the morning. People have invested to find everyone in the house fast asleep, and the ovens are as cold as the grave the bread comes from. One guest felt compelled to push his desk against the door, and when he returned from the restroom the desk had been put back in its place. Read more…
