Haunted 1858 Garnett House Hotel in Garnett, Kansas

Built in 1858, The Garnett House origins were as a hotel. It was the first hotel in Garnett, Kansas and is the only surviving antebellum structure in the town. Garnett House has operated in several capacities such as a residence, a school, a Doctor’s office, and hotel. The outlaw Jesse James was rumored to have stayed in the hotel as an alias at times. Several other famous documented guests include Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickock, Buffalo Bill Cody, Belle Starr and Bat Masterson. A recent rumor of Harry Houdini having stayed at the Garnett has been surfaced as well.

The ghost of Jesse James has also been reported to haunt the halls of the St James Hotel in Selma, Alabama if you’re a fan of the infamous outlaw.

The Garnett hotel has been investigated on occasion as it has such a rich history. Recently the Garnett House was purchased by a paranormal group with the intent of preserving the structure’s history. Is it haunted? Are the creeks in the attic just normal shifting of the building or the ghosts of the slaves that were hidden by abolitionist John Brown?

We are home haunt located down the street from Jackson Elementary School in a family friendly, safe neighborhood. The Haunt is only open on Halloween night from about 5pm- 9pm. Gilbert Street Cemetery is our annual Halloween display/home haunt located at 16 Gilbert Street Orono, Maine. We are small, but pack a lot of unique and detailed props into our yard that are mostly created by hand as a family. We really went all in starting in 2016 and began putting much more time and effort into our display. We set up in early October and run the lights nightly for most of the month for “drive by” viewing from sundown till around 11. Starting the week of Halloween we run more effects. Trick or treaters can come into the graveyard on Halloween night for a close up look at the spookiness and treats. We are a kid-friendly haunt and really enjoy doing this so stop in an check us out!

In the dead of night, a spark was ignited. A single thought. An idea. Conscious thought that would commence a new era. The night was cold and thick with a haze. Idle and concerning as the fog danced about with certainty. The fog held figures… shapes… building up to the eventual climax. The fog cleared, to show a dim home… on the corner of a singled out wood. 

Laughter and screams rebounded from the area. Music of a frightening nature. It began. The spark. The idea.

Sparky’s Fun House is an establishment based out in Spokane, WA. The haunt itself is family friendly or singularly adult only. We will switch up what we do periodically and make sure that we  keep it as fresh as we can.
