I went to Shaffer Hotel back on October 17-19, 2014 with my group (Grave Concerns Paranormal Research and Investigation). Our group was the last to stay there as the owners at the time was locking the doors to sell the building. We had full run of the whole hotel (excluding some places downstairs due to confidential stuff) BUT we had full run of the upstairs where the action took place.

My first impression was amazed by how the hotel looked and and how it was built, but once I got upstairs I could definitely feel something there. I didn’t feel anything bad but just something that told me that we weren’t alone there.

Some of the rooms were more creepier than the others, but overall it was a nice experience. The history in this hotel was awesome to learn and how Shaffer (aka Pop) built it and how everything there was pretty much genuine to date.

Only experience I can share that happened to me was, I was with another investigator and he was taking pictures with the IR camera and as he was taking a picture downstairs in a hallway looking into the room he felt lightheaded and said he was about to fall. Well as he said that, i felt something like go through me like it went through him and then through me. I didn’t feel as he did but I did feel something went through me. He leaned up against the wall for a second and we escorted him outside to get some fresh air. Of course the fresh air helped him out and he was a lot better.

The other time wasn’t really “live” but more so when I was sitting in the hotel room where we had our DVR system at and I took some pictures of the hallway and after reviewing the picture I see a “figure”/”person” standing at the very end of the hallway. Of course can’t see it that good because of the lights and all but it looks like something is there when zoomed in.

Other then that, nothing else happened there on my end. Other investigators there had interesting stories regarding them but for me that is pretty much it.

Hotel is pretty on the outside/inside and it was a great experience. If they ever open again and you can go, I HIGHLY recommend it! You won’t be let down and you’ll have a blast. Especially seeing the history in it.

i am a retired Chicago Fire Fighter , a few years ago along with other fire fighters we did a charity bicycle ride from California to Myrtle Beach. we stayed at the hotel during our ride. When we checked in I asked if I could have one of the haunted rooms, I was feeling brave. nothing happened during the nite, but in the morning I stepped out into the hall and the door slammed shut, locking my out. there was no open windows or breeze, it had to be a ghost. my name is Mark Buckley and the charity was the 41 and 9 foundation. wee loved our stay there.
