I am a huge fan of the Stone Lion Inn. We have stayed there several times because of the Murder Mysteries that you can dress up for. We stayed in the “hat room” several years ago. I remember it was the year that the movie “The Grudge” had come out and was popular. About 2 o’clock in the morning, my husband woke me up and said he needed to go to the bathroom. Annoyed for being woken up, I told him to just go to the bathroom. He waited a bit and said, “I want you to come with me.” Our room was SUPER cold and floors were bare wood – I was having my own mental debate of weighing if I needed to go bad enough to brave the frigid room and probably colder toilet seat OR stay in the warm soft bed. It was the WAY my husband said he wanted me to go with him that got my attention, though. I figured this was my sign so I agreed to accompany him. We trooped to the bathroom and as we arrived, I admitted that I needed to go as well and as always the gentleman, he bid me to go first. Okay. I started to close the door and he quickly put his hand out to stop it from closing. He looked towards the bed and said he wanted it open. Weird – we have each valued our own private bathroom times and have never desired to WATCH or be around the other in that moment, but again, the way he was acting made me inclined to oblige. After I finished, we swapped places and again, he didn’t want me to close the door or go back to the bed without him.
Finally, I asked WHAT was going on and he really didn’t want to say – it was as if he was concerned that if he spoke about what bothered him, someone would overhear and be offended. Finally, he relented and said he felt someone tap his shoulder. His eyes popped open thinking it was me, but then he realized I was curled up in front of him. He said his shoulder felt cold and numb. He was about to turn around when he heard something/someone SIGH in his ear. He felt frozen and said all he could think about is some kid with black eyes opening their mouth at him. That’s when he woke me up.
I never experienced anything, ever, in the 5 or 6 times that we’ve been there and we have stayed in just about every room on the property at one time or another.
I later heard that none of the daughters actually died in the room because there are records that they survived into adult hood. However, that doesn’t change the experience he had and he’s pretty level and down to earth.
