2026 Dates and Hours
Looking to experience the haunt for yourself? Woods of Terror is officially opening on Friday, September 11th, and is closing its doors for the 2026 season on Saturday, November 7th. In September, the haunt is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.
When October rolls around, Woods of Terror extends this by being open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as well as on Thursday, October 29th. The hours for October are as follows:

- Sundays from 6:30 to 9:30

The History of Woods of Terror
While Woods of Terror officially opened its doors as an attraction back in 1991, its history goes back far beyond that. According to legend, the area is home to the spirits of those who succumbed to poverty and hardship during the Great Depression.
Instead of having these spirits terrorize the city of Greensboro, a priest named Eddie Howie McMillan bound them to a plot of land he owned just outside of town, an area that would eventually become Woods or Terror.
When he passed away, he deeded the land to his great-great-grandson, Eddie H. McLaurin. He eventually used the land as a scrapyard, allowing locals to dump their junk there. According to this lore, the spirits that resided on the land moved and rearranged this scrap, setting the stage for what would eventually become the many scenes and attractions at Woods of Terror.
Since opening its doors to the public many decades ago, Woods of Terror has continued to grow and expand, and now offers well over a dozen attractions and haunts to experience. Throughout the years, the haunt has won several awards and been recognized by reviewers, publications, and organizations.
