It is haunted. I lived there around 1990 – 1992 when it was a fraternity house. The father of our chapter president at the time owned it, and we rented it from him. Other people claimed the basement was haunted when I moved in, but I didn’t think much about it until later. I was alone there one week when everyone had left for spring break. One night, my girlfriend and I were alone in my room upstairs with the door closed. I’d already locked everything up downstairs. Out of nowhere, we heard footsteps on the front stairs. They changed pitch as they turned on the landing and continued up, getting louder as they approached the top. At the top landing, the floor changed from carpet to wood, and the sound of the footsteps changed with it. They came right up to my door. I knew it wasn’t a human because the place was locked up tight and we hadn’t heard any noise of a window breaking or anything. And anyone coming in with a key would have made a lot of noise opening the big old front door. But I grabbed my gun just in case, and we crouched down by the wall next to the door. It must have been several minutes with no sound, before I slowly unlocked the door and kicked it open, holding the gun in front of me. We didn’t see anything, but after a couple of seconds, we hear footsteps going down the back wooden staircase. This is pretty much the craziest thing I’ve ever experienced, and I really wish now I’d opened the door right away so maybe we could’ve actually seen something.
