   I stayed at the Lafayette Park Hotel at the end of September, first the property is stunning and the staff is extremely attentive and kind including the restaurant. The first night I checked in one of the check in agents mentioned “If you hear footsteps above you, don’t tell me about it.” Of course thinking they just thought they were funny as they handed me the key card to a top floor room.. immediately upon getting to the top floor the hallways immediately are VERY LARGE and the sparseness up there feels eerie already. I entered the room, beautiful, large… the sun was setting. Nothing felt off, yet. I got ready for bed and immediately after sitting in bed there was an extremely uncomfortable sensation on the back of my neck.. I had experienced it before during a paranormal experience… blaming it on the large seemingly not extremely well insulated windows I just blamed the cold breeze and sensation on that and turned the tv to something leaving it on as if to try to deter anything else from happening or paying enough attention to get suspicious. Every night I’d leave it on just to hopefully tune out the feeling, the last night I was there I arrived back around 9:30-10pm and had to be up at 3am for a flight at SFO. I sat back in bed like every night before still with the unsettling feeling that something was off.. then it started, as if someone was on the roof of my room steps across it very definitively as I’ve been around roof construction and inspections in my lifetime. I shrug it off not pretending to know more about the hotel than the staff. Then I hear a knock on the wall to the left of the room where to the right arm of the sofa sits. At this point there’s no explanation… I immediately pull the blankets and my robe up as much as anyone would slightly terrified that things keep escalating. I get so close to falling asleep and then there’s a scratching… a sound as if someone has a wire hanger or some metal piece trying to undo the physical hotel door latch at the top… it gets so prevalent that I look to the entry way of the room to see if someone was trying to get in.. only to realize it’s coming from the bathroom door. At 3am I woke up to my alarm and decided I would not look in any mirror too long or down the hallways out of my path to the elevator… I tried talking myself out of everything that happened all the way to the airport. I still can’t reason any of it.

   I am sharing this story because I know the hotel staff covers up what happens here, and I want other guests who have experienced this to know they aren’t crazy. I would swear to this event on the Bible. It was the freakiest, most terrifying thing that has ever happened in my life.
   In 2012, I stayed at the upscale Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa in Lafayette, California. I was assigned a room on the top floor. At the time, I had absolutely no idea that the hotel sits immediately adjacent to the historic Lafayette Cemetery. I was completely blind to the location’s history.
   Late at night, the haunting began with my laptop.
   Out of nowhere, my computer was completely hijacked. An unseen force started taking over the screen, opening up random files and documents on my desktop. I tried to regain control of the mouse and keyboard but couldn’t move anything. Frustrated and thinking my mind was playing tricks on me, I slammed the laptop shut. A few minutes later, I opened it back up to see if it was a glitch—it was still happening. I had to hold down the hard-off power button to force it to shut down completely.
   Immediately after cutting off the computer’s power, I walked into the bathroom. The moment I stepped inside, an intense, freezing cold spot physically hit me, literally freezing half of my body. It was terrifying.
   I bolted back to the bed, scared out of my wits, and tucked myself as tightly as possible into the sheets and blankets. That is when I looked over into the corner of the bedroom.
   Standing there was a large, distorted visual blob. Out of this anomaly, the spirit of an old man began communicating with me. He was desperate and asked me for my help crossing over. I was paralyzed with fear. I ignored him as best I could and told him I didn’t know how to help him. I had a terrible time trying to sleep the rest of the night.
   The next morning, I awoke and peered out the window. To my shock, I discovered my top-floor room directly faced the historic cemetery next door.
   I went downstairs to the front desk immediately to report what happened and asked the staff if other guests had ever reported anything similar. The workers shrugged, exchanged a knowing look with each other as if trying to keep a dark secret, and non-chalantly told me “no.”
   I didn’t believe them for a second. The physical symptoms, the electronic interference, and the spirit’s request were incredibly real. This hotel is hiding its history, but the spirits from the cemetery next door are absolutely coming into those upper rooms.

   My daughter had her wedding there. My other daughter was arriving with another bridesmaid and said she physically saw a young girl in the hallway. She had a blank stare and was by herself. They went to the front desk and asked about it. They said “oh you saw her” They said there was a ghost in the hotel a young girl.

   My mom has been at the lafayette park hotel before. She said that she heard noises and woke up many times in the middle of the night, unknowing why she kept on waking up. The whole entire hotel is pretty creepy looking. It has an old, 1700s style on the inside. The night she came back she seemed scared, if not spooked. Keep in mind, the hotel is RIGHT next to a cemetery. I mean it neighbors the hotel. So, that may play a big role in why so many people claim this hotel is haunted.

   FYI
   I’ve NOT had any paranormal experiences at the Lafayette Hotel nor have I stayed there. However, it is bordered by the Lafayette Cemetery on the east side of the building. Hmm.
