Back Inn Time

Want to stay at an inn that George Washington visited? George’s name has been found on a ledger from a nearby tavern. It is likely that he was a guest at the inn. Reportedly built in the 1780’s, it is one of the oldest houses in the country.  It is said to have also housed John Quincy Adams, years later. It is known as the house with the candles. One story describes a mother who lit a candle as her son headed off to fight in the civil war. She promised to keep it lit until he returned. Read more…

The Haunted Blennerhassett Hotel in Parkersburg, West Virginia Old-world charm and a ghostly presence are what guests experience at the Blennerhassett. One of the spirits is that of William Chancellor, the former mayor. The mayor’s portrait was taken down when the hotel was being renovated, and he expressed his displeasure by dropping in unexpectedly on guests. When the restoration was complete, the visits stopped. Is Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Haunted? If you’re ever in New Orleans, make sure you stop by its oldest and most haunted bar, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop. The shop was built sometimes between 1761 and 1762 by notorious pirate Jean Lafitte who used it as a front to hide all of his illegal activity. Guests have reported seeing Jean Lafitte himself sitting near the fireplace, lingering at a shadowy back table, or roaming near the women’s bathroom. It is said that Lafitte hid his gold somewhere near the fireplace and is protective of that area of the shop. Read more…
