Agrasen ki Baoli is located in New Delhi, just down a quiet path from one of the most popular tourist areas in Delhi, Connaught Place. This ancient stepwell is one of a handful of handmade structures in India that have been restored by the government following the machine age. The architecture of this marvel shows the diversity of India’s culture. The arches preceding the corridors imply a subterranean influence. It is said that the well was built about 5,000 years ago for a king whose existence was never proven.

This monument is one of the most impressive for visitors, and some spooky legends go along with it. Some visitors have claimed that they felt as if they were being followed the entire time they were here. They would look around, but no one would be there. According to the legend, when people jump into the water to commit suicide, the water level rises. However, there have been a lot of doubts about this rumor since the water is only five feet deep.

Known as one of the most haunted places in Delhi, there are over one hundred steps for visitors to climb and see just how majestic the architecture here is. The paranormal legends have spread throughout Delhi, and plenty of locals will never visit this stepwell. The black water that lurks beneath the stepwell isn’t the only mystery here.

Visitors here have often told others they felt they were being followed up and down the stairs. They also pointed out that they heard someone else’s footsteps behind them, and when they turned around, there was no one there. Most of these rumors can be debunked by the fact that there are always echoes in the stepwell due to the acoustics here. However, most visitors feel that something is very creepy here, and they feel very unnerved while they are sightseeing.

Agrasen ki Baoli is another Indian location that the government has suggested staying closed after sunset. Is it the ghosts that wander around at night that keep people away? We may never know.
