Built in 1929, this hotel is haunted by the occupants that could not escape a fire on December 20, 1970. The fire killed 28 people in the hotel including the owners who resided in the penthouse at the time. Most of the people perished on the top floor during a Christmas party for Hughes Aircraft (Raytheon). The top floor was rife with fire hazards and the building hadn’t been up to code because it was grandfathered in with hotel’s age. Paranormal enthusiasts know that the best reason to visit the Hotel Congress in Tuscon is for Room 242, which is the hotel’s haunted room. Built in 1919, the old hotel played host to a number of guests over the years, but history buffs know the hotel because police once captured infamous bank robber John Dillinger there. Room 242, sometimes called the suicide room, was where a guest checked in and never checked out. It’s not often that you find a hotel haunted by the ghost of a former prostitute, but the most famous ghost of the Copper Queen Hotel is that of a former working girl. Built in the late 1890s through early 1900s, this hotel was one of the nicest in the area and was a popular place for mining investors and managers to stay while visiting the local mines. The original Garsden Hotel dates back to the turn of the century, but after a fire swept through the property, the owners rebuilt it in 1929. Eleanor Roosevelt and other famous guests stayed there over the years, but local legend says that some of the hotel’s regular guests never moved on. The most haunted room is, without a doubt, Room 333. Multiple television shows dealing with the paranormal and supernatural filmed at the hotel over the years, and many of those shows focused specifically on that room. Read more…
