Built in 1901 by Isadore St. Martin, the Carson Hot Springs Resort has many ghosts said to be walking within its walls. Isadore was killed on the grounds in 1910. He was arguing with a man on the grounds and was accidentally stabbed in the chest. St. Martin’s wife died shortly after him. Her ghost is the most active, visible ghost on the grounds. Along with an inn that hasn’t changed much in over 100 years, there are cabins where guests have frequently heard things that can’t be explained. There’s been the faint sound of girls laughing where there were no little girls. There’s a female apparition said to be roaming the halls of the inn. It’s thought that the wife of a former owner haunts the Rosario Resort. She’s been spotted on the third floor in a red dress. She also has been seen driving a motorcycle in the hotel. One guest to the resort said that she was taking a small tour upstairs and found herself in an empty room but felt like she was being watched. She was overwhelmed with the urge to leave quickly. At the resort, the ghost is thought to be one upset governess for the former owner. Mrs. Beanning’s ashes were in an urn on the mantle for years. The new owners thought she’d be better off in the family crypt. Since then, the spirit has shown her displeasure. She turns lights off and on, plays with the blenders as well as fans in the resort. She’s often seen peering over the railing towards the mezzanine below. There are other ghostly happenings that can’t be pinned to one ghost. A hotel worker reported that he saw a heavy, glass-and-metal terrace door fly open on a night that wasn’t windy. He didn’t return to that area for a week. The estate was built by Elizabeth and William Kindred in 1885 and was opened as The Kindred Inn in 1889, making it the oldest resort in Washington state. The inn is settled close to the Pacific Ocean, making it quite cozy and relaxing for a guest to stay. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean.
