For those who like to seek out new experience and dabble in the world of haunted houses, there is no place better than Graceland Inn and Conference Center. Traveling to this historic Inn itself is an experience. When you arrive at the hillside Inn, you’ll immediately feel taken aback by the expansive grounds and landmark property. Several entities haunt the grounds. Guests have reported seeing an entity known as Grace, whose history is as mysterious as her appearances. A servant names Katie is destined to roam the halls fulfilling her chores from beyond. A senator named Henry Davis is also said to haunt some of the upper-scale rooms. There is also an unknown ghost who lurks in the basement. Rumor has it the servant was beaten to death and buried in the hotel.

If restless spirits is what you’re looking for, the Harpers Ferry Guest House offers a ghostly experience that offers the chance of seeing some real haunted spirits. Several entities are known to walk the streets of Harpers Ferry at night. They tend to be most active when nobody is around, so be sure to go late at night when the living are sleeping. One visitor met with a spirit who glowered at him from the head of the stairway. Later, the same man met with a woman who was dressed in a long, flowing hooded dress. Both of these ghosts have been seen by other guests as well. For your best chance of seeing a ghost, make sure to check out the stairwell when you check in and late at night.

This Inn first came to life in 1839 when Andrew Stockton got a license to entertain stagecoach traffic. It also likely served as a makeshift hospital during the Civil War from 1863 to 1865. People who have stayed at the inn report the experience as playful, whimsical and fun. Perhaps they are meeting with “The Colonel,” who is said to haunt the premises. The ghost has reportedly been seen shutting doors behind people and playing with the birdbath. Late at night, the ghost is often heard traipsing around the lot and foot-steps can be heard going up and down the hallway outside the kitchen. Book a stay, and you might be able to see the disembodied Colonel too.

Opened some time from 1901 to 1904, the The Historic Lowe Hotel has had sightings on the second to third floor. The third floor is the most active, with a former maid, a captain and a bearded man. Fourth floor guests also often report hearing the creepy sounds of a string quartet, and the otherworldly group plays day and night. Perhaps the creepiest ghost is the small child who rides through the halls on a tricycle. Guests have reported hearing laughs and the squeaking of the wheels. Book early and spend a few days on the third floor for the best chance at a ghost sighting.

Located where the prairie meets the Rocky Mountains in Casper, WY, the Ivy House Inn has a haunted history that dates back to Mr. and Mrs. White, its original owners – and their two Siamese cats. Mrs. White, who died in 1995 at the age of 93, apparently didn’t like people who smoke or drank, so she’d make post-death appearances to scare them off.

There have also been reports of mysterious happenings during renovations to the inn, Mrs. White’s cats running around and purring on the edge of beds, and a ghostly man in a black hat who set off car alarms in the parking lot. Sold in 2009, the inn is now a self-help center.

Some guests at this cozy motel in Baggs, WY, report experiencing a spooky awakening early in the morning. Reportedly, a glowing white apparition appears briefly to stir guests from their slumber in the wee hours of the new day. The motel itself is fairly isolated, which sparks instant visions of Norman Bates – even without knowing of the alleged haunted history of the place.

There is no word or who the apparition may have been in a previous existence. Apparently there is no one room in particular that’s favored, so be prepared for a surprise wake up call if you stay here.

There’s a slight chill in the air. The lights flicker. While you may be able to chalk such happenings up to an over-active imagination, it’s a little more difficult to explain the full-fledged apparitions reported by some guests at this Rawlins, WY, B&B.

The ghostly visions most reported are of a woman and two male children. According to local legend, one of the kids may be the ghost of Cecil Ferris, a boy who was accidentally shot and killed when the B&B was a home. It’s been suggested that the otherworldly woman seen here may be Cecil’s mother.

Is the Virginian Hotel haunted?

Restored to its original turn of the century luster, the historic Virginian Hotel is a grand sight to behold in the small town of Medicine Bow, WY. It’s also said to be alive with ghostly activity. You definitely get the feeling of yesteryear here, which adds to the charming spookiness of the place, which includes an “eating house,” formal dining room and a saloon.

There’s no ghost in particular that has been identified as being a “permanent resident” of the hotel. While this is just speculation, one of the apparitions may be August Grimm, the first mayor of Medicine Bow who also built the hotel in the early 1900s – or any of the cowboys and railroad workers who one stayed here.

The Historic Occidental Hotel in Buffalo, Wy

If the lore of the Old West appeals to you, then you’ll want to stop by this one-time combination hotel, saloon, and bordello dating to the 1880s. Guests and employees have reported seeing the ghostly presence of the daughter of a prostitute who met her maker on the hotel’s upper floor.

The ghostly dark-haired woman, described as wearing a white dress, is known for her interactions with guests, sometimes offering shoulder taps. Ghosts of outlaws and gold miners who once frequented the hotel may be partly responsible for strange lights seen from the unoccupied upper floor rooms. Many visitors have reported faint echoes of ghostly laughter from the unoccupied floor.

Hotel workers recount paranormal stories. Objects moving with no”body” there. Some employees were even frightened enough to find new jobs. The piano has been reported to occasionally make a little noise on its own. The Historic Occidental Hotel is a beautiful location with a rich history, ornate decor, and a great atmosphere. The paranormal activity and ghostly history make the stay even more interesting.

The Ghost of Emily

Other stories suggest the ghost of a child named Emily who haunts the hotel. She reportedly died of cholera in the 1900s. In the room Emily died, stuffed animals are left for the young spirit as an homage to the child and to lift her “spirits.” Guests have reported light shoulder taps and pinches from time to time. Children even write the ghost of Emily letters and notes sometimes the notes suggest that they kids had played together. Children reportedly have heard balls bouncing and even playing hide and seek with the ghost.

Haunted Rooms and Reported Activity in the Historic Occidental Hotel

• The Herbert Hoover Room – The faint smell of perfume has been reported in the Herbert Hoover room, yet nobody in the room was wearing any scents.
• The Haunted Saloon and Bar – Many odd reports in the saloon can make an evening of libation more interesting indeed. Read below.
• The Prairie Cowboy Room –The Prairie Cowboy Room is said to have the most paranormal reports. This room has reported visible entities whooshing by in the late night hours.
• Room 56 – There have been reports of a heavy iron moving across the floor.
• Haunted Piano – The piano keys have reportedly played a few chords from time to time. Perhaps you might request an old tune?

The bartenders have reported whiskey bottles flying off the shelves or wine bottle corks popping off randomly. Glasses occasionally break while someone is trying to pour into them. On Fridays there is a bluegrass musician session that is said to rile up the activity in the hotel at times.

It’s often said that ghosts haunt the place where they met their untimely demise when murder is involved. Dating to 1911, this Cheyenne hotel is said to be haunted by the groom of a jealous bride, his lover and the jilted bride herself. It all started with a recently wedded couple who decided to spend their honeymoon at this particular hotel.

As the story goes, the bride went in search of her new husband and found him at a nearby bar – in the company of another woman. The irate bride supposedly followed the pair out of the bar without being detected and offed both of them. Distraught over what she had just done, she returned to her hotel room and took her own life. All three spirits are said to still be in residence.

Strange noises, bottomless ghostly apparitions, and mysterious footsteps are just some of the unexplained happenings reported here. Located in Cody, WY, Irma Hotel has a long history dating to 1902 when Buffalo Bill built the place (and named it after his daughter).

While ghostly occurrences have been reported throughout the hotel, room 35 is said to be especially paranormally active. In addition to finding rows of glasses moved and hearing jangling spurs in empty rooms, employees have also reported catching an occasional glimpse of Buffalo Bill himself.

If you’re looking to scare yourself to sleep at a haunted bed and breakfast, then River’s Inn Bed and Breakfast in Antonito, CO, might be right up your alley. River’s Inn Bed and Breakfast is supposedly haunted by a little girl named Annie, who has been seen laughing and playing on the property. Patrons of the bed and breakfast also report of hearing the voices of a man and a woman, and the ghosts have reportedly even answered some questions posed by ghost investigators.

One of the most notable and recent sightings of Annie was on March 6, 2014, when she reportedly left her fingerprints in flour on the dining room table and china cabinet of the inn. There are also reports of one of the ghosts leaving cigar ashes in the corners of bedrooms as well as in between bed sheets.

Although there are no clear stories that dictate just who “Annie” is or was or why she haunts the River’s Inn Bed and Breakfast, it is obvious that the inn has seen its fair share of history. It retains furniture that’s true to its historic period, with Victorian-style settees and claw foot bathtubs. Regardless of whether you’re looking for scary or fun paranormal activity, the River’s Inn Bed and Breakfast in Antonito, CO, is a worthy stay.
