The Haunted Driskill Hotel in Austin, TX The Driskill Hotel was built by Jesse Driskill and opened in 1886. The plan was to create the most luxurious hotel in all of Texas. That plan was succesful as the hotel played host to governor’s inaugurations as an annual tradition. Word is that Jesse Driskill lost the hotel in a poker game to his brother-in-law Jim Day. The Menger Bar, along with the famously haunted Menger Hotel, opened its doors in San Antonio in 1859, the time of heated gunfights, Civil War soldiers, and wide roaming, notorious outlaws. Considering the amount of history in the San Antonio area, it’s unsurprising that some of it leaked into The Menger Bar. As many as 32 separate ghosts have been reported wandering the bar and hotel.
