IT Remake

Can the new IT remake stand up to the original miniseries? It’s been 16+ years since the original adaptation of Stephen King’s novel. Now, Pennywise returns to make his first appearance on the big screen. Comparisons of Bill Skarsgård and Tim Curry are already a hot topic. The budget is grander than before and special effects have come a long way since the original series in 1990. Stay tuned for all things related to Stephen King’s IT remake.

For decades, Stephen King‘s IT has terrified bibliophiles and cinephiles alike, starting with the first page of the classic 1986 novel, then the 1990 miniseries, and bookending with the 2017 and 2019 blockbuster films. But Pennywise isn’t finished just yet. HBO is taking us wayyyy back with IT: Welcome to Derry, a prequel series that explores the origins of Pennywise, the fun-loving neighborhood clown.

The Plot of IT: Welcome to Derry

Long before the rainstorms of the 1980s caused the children of Derry to be ripped to shreds, there stood a sleepy town where people could live out the American dream. At least that’s what the community thought.  The series will dive into the origins of Pennywise and the sinister events that haunted Derry for centuries, including the catastrophic happenings that brought about that aforementioned fun-loving clown.

The Official IT: Chapter Two Trailer

When Jessica Chastain told Jimmy Fallon that IT: Chapter Two features “the most blood that’s ever been in a horror film in a scene,” fans realized that this is going to be a behemoth of a horror film. See the first glimpses of the IT: Chapter Two in the first trailer to drop into your nightmares. Stephen King’s It: Chapter Two is coming to theaters on September 6, 2019.

It was the box office, horror smash sensation of 2017. Opening to $123.1 million during its opening weekend, the film quickly became the 5th most profitable film of 2017 as well as the all-time horror film box office record holder. With an overwhelming critical response as well as thumbs up from the film’s original author, Stephen King, the IT remake sequel was quickly in the works. Here are a few of the latest facts we know about IT: Chapter Two.

IT: Chapter Two Release Date

The release of IT: Chapter Two sequel official theatrical release is slated for September 6, 2019. The date has been locked down. Any fan of both the film and the book knows that the 2017 film ended midway through the original novel by Stephen King (which clocks in at a hefty 1,138 pages). With so much material to cover, it was a natural fit to split the film into a beginning and concluding part.

A 3-Hour Tour of Derry, Maine

IT Chapter 2

Any fan of King’s novel knows just how lengthy and detailed it is. With so many main characters and many plot lines and conclusions to mead out, the first film’s original director and helmer of the sequel, Andy Muschietti have edited down a version which clocks in at an astounding three hours! The battle between The Losers Club and Pennywise is looking to be a long one.

IT: Chapter Two Production and Cast

IT Chapter 2

Principal photography on the upcoming horror masterpiece finished late last fall. As a result of the constant editing, a much bigger cast has been revealed. Bill Skarsgård naturally returns as the sinister and cosmically evil clown Pennywise. Adult versions of The Losers Club are phenomenally cast with some of Hollywood’s hottest names. James McAvoy stars as Bill Denbrough, Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom, Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, Bill Hader as Richie Tozier, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, and Teach Grant as Henry Bowers.

IT Chapter 2

IT‘s Gonna Be Bloody

Actress Jessica Chastain who plays Beverly Marsh in the sequel recently made some of the most sensational comments about the film’s most terrifying scenes. Confiding to funnyman Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Chastain revealed that while filming a particular scene, the special effects crew on the film informed her that this was the most amount of blood to ever be used in a modern horror film.

IT Chapter 2

She went on to say that so much blood was being used that the next day she found dried blood stuck to the inside of her eyes! Fallon pressed for one more detail on how the film turned out and Chastain demurred originally, but gave in to the crowd and whispered,

“It is scary man, really scary”.

It: Chapter Two is looking to terrify crowds and break box office history on September 6, 2019.

It: Chapter Two will follow the struggles of a now-adult group of childhood friends, who we were introduced to in the first chapter of the series, as they reunite to combat Pennywise’s eventual awakening from his demonic slumber. 27 years after they defeated him in the summer of 1989 in Derry, Maine, It is back… but so is the Loser’s Club.

Stephen King's IT Remake: First Look

Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise

It: Chapter Two is slated for release on September 6, 2019.

Following the major success of Andres Muschietti’s IT, there was never any doubt that we would eventually get a sequel.

The rumor mill that followed the release of the IT: Chapter 1 has thrown some shade on what we can actually expect. From a supposed post-credit scene that involved Jessica Chastain that never actually came about, to fears that director Andres Muschietti might not be returning – he is, although his signing hasn’t yet closed – it can be difficult to know how the sequel is shaping up.

Jessica Chastain confirmed to be in talks to star as Beverly Marsh in IT: Chapter 2

Jessica Chastain joins the cast of IT

While there is still a lot that we don’t know, it looks like we can safely put one speculation to bed. It has been confirmed that fan favorite Jessica Chastain is in active talks to join the cast of the adult Loser’s Club, taking on the role of grown-up Beverly Marsh.

This may come as no surprise, as Chastain has been a shoo-in for the role since the original film’s release last September, appearing on multiple fan and film critic lists for their pick of Sophia Lillis’ counterpart.

After Chastain herself said that she hoped to be involved in some capacity for a sequel, it was all but set in stone.

Bill Skarsgard returns as Pennywise

Bill Skarsgard is Pennywise

Chastain’s appearance in the film sets a high bar for the rest of the cast, as the Golden Globe-nominated actress and two time Oscar nominee joins Bill Skarsgard in this highly anticipated sequel.

It: Chapter 2 is set to hit theaters in September of 2019.

Perhaps it is our seemingly endless variety of techie gadgets and virtual reality headsets that are driving us right back into the simpler arms of the past, but no matter the cause, it’s clear that an 80’s nostalgia train has started – and there’s no signs of it slowing down anytime soon.  While it’s no secret that clothing and hairstyle trends cycle around every couple of generations, this current revival seems to be coming in the form of film. (Sorry 80’s fashionistas, looks like our acid wash jeans will remain in the closet just a little bit longer.)

2017’s blockbuster remake of IT (updated to take place in 80’s), as well as the popularity of Netflix’s Stranger Things, have reinvigorated audiences to the genre of fun, kid powered, horror flicks. And just this past week, attendees of the Sundance Film Festival got an exclusive first look at the next synth-scored, Goonies-esque thriller to hit the big screen, Summer of ’84.

Summing up Summer of ‘84

Summer of ’84 comes from the creative minds at RKSS Films, a self described “triforce” collective of writers and directors made up of Francois Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell. It is the second film for the trio, following their well received 2015 debut of Turbo Kid, an action-adventure comedy set over a decade later in 1997. But Summer of ’84 is pure 1980’s glory.

The film follows a rag tag group of four teens led by a young conspiracy theorist and tabloid fanatic, Davey (played by Graham Verchere), on the hunt for the notorious Cape May Slayer, a serial killer who has claimed the lives of 13 teenage boys near their Oregon suburb. Opening with a promise that the “craziest shit always happens in the suburbs”, viewers follow Davey and his bored band of brothers, Woody (Caleb Emery), Farraday (Cory Gruter Andrew), and Eats (Judah Lewis), as they embark on what appears to be a futile hunt for the suspected killer…who just happens to be their friendly neighborhood police officer, Mr. Mackey, played by Mad Men’s Rich Sommer .

Rich Sommer in Summer of 84

Accompanied by a heavy, synth-pop score, courtesy of composer Le Matos, and with absolute eagle-eyed attention to wardrobe and set design, Summer of ’84 hits a lot of the right marks. Even the film’s poster, with its bold, red slasher font, and a kitschy “Missing” milk carton – complete with a spooky skull – harken back to the good ol’ days of gleeful, campy horror.

But don’t let this film’s looks fool you. With grisly undertones that culminate in a gory finale, faint of heart horror fans (or their parents) looking for a Stand By Me stand-in, may get more than they bargained for. And if early Sundance reviews are to be believed, the currently unrated film earns at least a hard PG-13 rating.

Summer of ’84 hasn’t nabbed a release date yet, but if you’re an 80’s baby looking for a romp down memory lane, be on the lookout for its theatrical release. This is one that’s sure to satisfy!

Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in the Midnight Section is Summer of ’84, a horror film, set in everyone’s favorite decade. Summer of ’84 pits four 15-year old friends against a neighborhood serial killer. FrightFind was lucky to get an interview with Cory Grüter-Andrew who plays one of the teen investigators in Summer of ’84.

Cory Gruter Andrew in Summer of 84

FF: Corey Nice to meet you. Thanks for taking the time today to talk about Summer of ’84. Tell us a bit about yourself and where you’re from.

Cory:  I was born and raised in Vancouver B.C. I’m currently here in Toronto filming a TV series and I’ve been acting for about three years now. I’ve had some good luck in my career so far. I’ve been on things like Fargo and The 100 and Van Helsing which just came out on Netflix.

FF: We talked to Wyatt Oleff who was in the IT remake a few months ago and it was his first foray into horror. You’re a little bit different. You seem to have a little sci-fi and drama background with The 100 and Van Helsing. Are you a horror fan or is that something you were looking to get into?

Cory: I am a horror fan actually. I’m a fan of thriller movies and horror movies. You know, things like Final Destination and all that, but yeah, I’m really interested in doing dramas and things like that. Comedies are fun too don’t get me wrong, but my preferred genre is definitely drama.

FF: Tell us about the Summer of ’84. What do our horror fans need to know about the upcoming film?

Cory: Summer of ’84... It’s going to be a great film. I’ve seen a lot of the scenes and clips from the movie and I think everyone’s going to really enjoy it. The Summer of ’84 is pretty explanatory by the title. These four boys all live in a neighborhood cul-de-sac. They each have a suspicion that their neighbor, Wayne Mackey, who is also a police officer, might be a serial killer. This prompts an investigation from the four boys into his private life and they start to dig in. The film really has a Stand By Me or maybe a Goonies feel.

FF: For me, this film is exciting. With the recent success of IT and Stranger Things with that nostalgic 80s theme. Seems like this has a similar feel. Is that safe to say?

Cory: Yeah. I’d say so. You know Stranger Things is set in the 80s as well. However, Summer of ’84 deals with more real-life events. There’s nothing like the “Upside Down” or anything like that. They’re dealing with a real serial killer. I think it’s a bit more grounded in reality whereas Stranger Things is definitely more sci-fi horror.

FF: I totally agree. So you’re a group of kids. Do you have a nickname like the Losers Club or anything like that?

Cory: [Laughs] Right now, we don’t but we should definitely think of one. For the sequel right?

FF: So your character is Curtis Farraday. Tell us about Curtis and what he’s like. How does he add to the investigation?

Cory: So Curtis Farraday… he’s the “nerdy one” of the group. Most people I think will see him as the nerdy one. He was raised by scholars. He’s much more academically inclined than the other kids. And basically, the polar opposite of the character who is played by Juda Louis. The four boys really work as a collaborative team. But I think Curtis is a little more skeptical about the whole thing.

FF: So you have a group of 4 boys teamed up to stop a serial killer. How do you guys interact? What’s the dynamic of the group?

Starring from left to right: Cory Grüter-Andrew, Graham Verchere, Caleb Emery, Judah Lewis

Cory: Oh we’re all really good friends. We love to hang out. We get along really well. We hung out on the weekends when we could and we all just got along really well. I think that’s going to show on screen.

FF: Will you be at Sundance for the show?

Cory: So I’m heading out to Sundance tomorrow morning. But I won’t be able to make the premiere sadly cause I have work that day. I’ll definitely be able to reunite with the guys though.

FF: What’s the scuttlebutt around the film so far? How do you feel it’s being received? Any criticism?

Cory: I think people are receiving it nicely. I think people are really going to enjoy it. You know people who lived in the 80s are going to get a really nostalgic feel from the film. I think the majority of people are going to enjoy it.

FF:  So let me ask a couple kind of goofball questions. Do you think that Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven from Stranger Things) copied your haircut from Legends of Tomorrow?

Millie Bobby Brown versus Cory Grüter-Andrew

Better buzz cut? Millie Bobby Brown or Cory Grüter-Andrew

Cory: [LAUGHS]. I don’t know. We both do rock a pretty good buzz cut.

FF: If you guys were in a fight: The Losers’ Club, Strangers Things kids, or the Summer of ’84 gang, who’s going to win?

Cory: Oooh. That’s tough. I mean, we do have Woody, he’s the big guy. What do you mean by fight? [laughs]

FF: You know, a full-on brawl. Maybe a cage match!

Cory: Woody. He’s the big dude of the group. He would definitely be a big help. But yeah… I don’t know. It’s tough to say. I mean, who knows maybe Mike from Stranger Things knows karate or something.

FF: We asked Wyatt from IT the same question. He felt the Losers’ Club had the advantage because they had that stun gun. I will relay that Woody might be able to “take them out” back to Wyatt. [Laughs]

FF: Kids’ group stories set in the 80s timeline have been quite successful recently. Summer of ’84 seems to be a bit edgier with less sci-fi. When you look at those other films do you draw comparisons yourself? Any thoughts on similarities and how they compare?

Cory: I mean they’re all set in the 80s, but I don’t like to compare things you know? To each its own. You know they are all set in the 80s but they have a distinctly different vibe to them.

Cory Gruter Andrew at Sundance

FF: Tell me a little bit more about yourself.  What’s next for you, Corey? You’re working now. What’s the next film on your slate?

Cory: Yeah, I relocated to Toronto temporarily. And I’m shooting Anne with an E, which is a CBC Netflix show. I’m in season 2 and it’s going to premiere sometime in 2018.

FF: Are you thinking about more horror or science fiction horror?

Cory: I’d love to get into that. Yeah. It’s really fun genre. It’s fun to do. And you know, if there is a job there I’d happily take it.

FF: Last question, another silly question. But what are you going to be for Halloween and what is your favorite Halloween candy?

Cory: Ooh my favorite Halloween candy. Probably those mini-Snickers bars. And you know… I’ll probably just chuck a sheet over my head and be a ghost.

Corey Gruter Andrew in Summer of '84 dressed up as a ghost

FF: Well, thank you for the time. Good luck with Summer of ’84. I hope we’ll be talking to you about more horror films down the road.

Cory: Yeah totally. Thanks, FrightFind.

So far Andres Muschietti’s remake of Stephen King’s IT has pulled in over an astounding $500 million worldwide since its release on September 8th, 2017. IT is set to surpass even The Exorcist as the top-grossing R-rated horror film and is well on its way to toppling other records before it even leaves theaters. So even without Muschietti’s “Chapter 1” teaser in the credits of IT, there was likely never any doubt of a sequel coming to fruition. But what might that sequel look like?

First, we know the release date. September 6, 2019. Ugh, that’s a while off now isn’t it?

What do we know about the IT sequel so far?

IT already has a solid body of work to build on and with Andres Muschietti altering only minor bits from the first half of the novel and reworking parts of the 1990’s miniseries, it’s possible that we’ll see a fairly true to form sequel… providing Muschietti signs back on for the second half. As of Sept. 7, Andres Muschietti wasn’t officially confirmed as director of the sequel however, his involvement is almost a guarantee as Barbara Muschietti, sibling of Andres and producer of IT has already signaled her involvement on a sequel, as well as lead actor Bill Skarsgard (Pennywise) and screenwriter Gary Dauberman, who will return to write the script for the sequel.

A sequel was the plan all along. In an interview with Yahoo! Movies Muschietti stated the following, “I really wanted to focus on the emotional journey of the group of kids. Getting into that other dimension—the other side—was something that we could introduce in the second part.”

That notion of exploring Pennywise’s origins has also been hinted at by none other than Pennywise himself, Bill Skarsgard.

“We’re in the early stages and I’m talking to Andy about it and figuring out what IT will be… It’s a different story, but I’m excited to delve in deeper to the character as there’s more exploration for who Pennywise is,”… “And I think that’s what I wanted and that’s where I want to go for the second one, to delve into the psychological and metaphysical spaces of this transdimensional being.” – Andres Muschietti

And as far as the timing on the sequel and filming, they need to get it in gear. Producer Barbara Muschietti stated that the kids involved in Chapter 1 will be an important part of the sequel, specifically in the form of flashback sequences.

The hope is we’ll find the best way soon because it’s also important for Andy to get flashbacks with the kids, who are growing very fast.” – Barbara Muschietti

However, when FrightFind sat down with IT star Wyatt Oleff (Stan Uris of the Losers’ Club) to ask about plans for a sequel, Oleff responded that an IT Chapter 2 script may not even be in the works yet – “I don’t think they’ve written the script yet. So, they’re trying to gather all the ideas and parts from the book that they wanna put in and all of that.”

The general consensus remains however, that should everything go according to plan, we’ll all be happily throwing our money at New Line Cinema again on September 6th, 2019.

IT Sequel, Who will fill The Losers’ Club Shoes?

Besides Bill Skarsgard and the current Losers’ Club cast, there has been no official word on casting for the Losers’ adult counterparts that will be essential to Chapter 2. But there has been a lot of exciting speculation.

IT: The Losers' Club

Who will fill the young Losers’ Club shoes? From left to right: Stanley Uris (Wyatt Oleff), Richie Tozier (Finn Wolfhard), Mike Hanlon (Chosen Jacobs), Bill Denbrough (Jaeden Lieberher), Beverly Marsh (Sophia Lillis) & Ben Hanscom (Jeremy Ray Taylor)

Fans have pegged Jessica Chastain as a favorite to play an adult Beverly Marsh. Muschietti seems fond of that idea as well, especially since they already have a friendly working relationship from his previous horror flick, Mama. Jessica Chastain is also apparently a huge fan of IT and loves Muschietti’s interpretation, so in the words of Muschietti himself, “it feels like the planets are aligned in that sense…” As for the rest of the casting, according to Muschietti “There are a lot of ideas for the rest of the cast that I’m playing with, but it’s a bit too premature to say those names right now.”

Jessica Chastain, possible candidate for the IT Sequel

Fans peg Jessica Chastain to play an adult Beverly. Nothing has been confirmed as speculation grows.

While it’s too early for the Muschietti’s to confirm anything, that hasn’t slowed down fan speculation, even among the current cast of the Losers’ Club. In an interview with Variety, Jaeden Lieberher, the actor that plays young Bill Denbrough, has said he would love to see Ewan McGregor take on the role.

Jeremy Ray Taylor who plays young Ben Hanscom in The Losers’ Club has stated he would love to see Guardians of the Galaxy’s lead Chris Pratt fill his shoes and Chosen Jacobs, the young Mike Hanlon, has listed another Marvel star, Chadwick Boseman of Black Panther fame, as his choice for his grown-up counterpart.

Speculation for the rest of the cast has included Jake Gyllenhaal as Bill Denbrough, Batman V Superman’s Scoot McNairy to play an adult Stan Uris, lovable John Krasinski for his similarities to John Ritter’s portrayal of Ben Hanscom, American Pie’s Jason Biggs as the wisecracking Richie Tozier, Jordan Peele, director of the ultra-terrifying Get Out as Mike Hanlon, and Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul as Eddie Kaspbreak.

Should any of these come to fruition IT: Chapter 2 has the potential to be a huge, star-studded event. When asked about potential casting for the next installment, Muschietti simply said the following; “I cannot talk about it. Some things said on the web are not totally wrong. That’s all I can say.”

Changes to the IT sequel

Muschietti and Skarsgard have both been very careful when comparing their IT with the 1990 miniseries. Skarsgard has said in multiple interviews that he never wanted to simply recreate Tim Curry’s performance in the original, stating the following; “I knew that I was never going to be able to do that, so I’m going to do something completely different and hope people appreciate both performances.”

IT Remake of Pennywise: Curry versus Skarsgard

“I knew that I was never going to be able to do that, so I’m going to do something completely different and hope people appreciate both performances.” – Bill Skarsgard

Muschietti has also been open to discussing potential changes to the story for the sequel. When asked about Mike Hanlon’s character, who later goes on to be the only member of the Losers’ Club who stayed behind in Derry, he said the following; “My idea of Mike in the second movie is quite darker from the book. I want to make his character the one pivotal character who brings them all together, but staying in Derry took a toll with him. I want him to be a junkie actually. A librarian junkie. When the second movie starts, he’s a wreck.”

In addition to a darker version of the adult Mike, speculation has also swirled about the return of Henry Bowers, the abusive tormentor of the Losers. In the novel, Henry is controlled by Pennywise and admits to killing the missing children. He is eventually admitted to Juniper Hill Asylum where he spends several years before escaping with help from Pennywise where he can further torment the now adult Losers. Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen the new IT-eration.

In the 2017 version of the film, we see Henry fall to his assumed doom down a sewer pipe after a physical altercation with Mike. As he never reappears, it’s possible that he too has joined the leagues of other deceased children in Derry, however that may be a bit too much speculation.

“Never Found the Body”, aka “Never Say Die” is a common trope in horror films that can basically be boiled down to “Never assume a character is dead unless you see the body.” In this case, especially with Pennywise’s previous use of Henry as a vessel to create havoc for both the children and adult Losers, it’s possible that Henry could reappear to take on his adult role in Chapter 2.

Going Forward…

New Pennywise from Stephen King's IT Remake

We’ll keep you updated on any new developments on the sequel, but we want to know what you’d like to see in Chapter 2?  Who would you like to see in the role of the adult Losers? What parts from the Stephen King’s novel were you disappointed didn’t make the first film? What flashback sequences are you hoping will brought back in the second installment? Let us know in the comments below!

FrightFind had an amazing opportunity to sit down and talk with Wyatt Oleff of the upcoming remake of Stephen King’s IT. You may know Wyatt from his gut wrenching opening scene where he played a young Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy 1. Wyatt plays Stan Uris a member of The Losers’ Club. Here’s what we can expect when we finally see the new IT this September 8th.

FrightFind: Hi Oleff. Thanks for taking time to talk to us today.

Wyatt Oleff: Oh, absolutely. Thank you for having me.

FF: So, what was it like starring in the most heartbreaking opening scene in movie history? I’m Referring to Guardians of the Galaxy where you played young Peter Quill.

Wyatt: That’s quite the title actually. I don’t know if I want that because I think Up has that, but I’m not sure.

FF: That’s what my daughter says too, but that’s a cartoon and Guardians is real.

Wyatt: Okay. Wow. I didn’t expect people to actually… Well, I expected people to cry, hopefully, but just the reaction that [the scene] got was incredible and really kinda blew my mind with how far that it went. And I was like, “Is this how far things can go?” ‘Cause it was just like my first huge thing and I was mind blown.

Wyatt Oleff in Guardians of the Galaxy

FF: Tell us about your character Stan Uris in IT. He’s different than the other kids in the Losers’ Club.

Wyatt: Well, Stan is a very… He’s a very organized person. He has OCD. He wants everything to be in order and in check. And with the main events of the movie rolling around and It being a thing that’s terrorizing Derry, he’s definitely the most scared of It, and he’s really… I would say It just doesn’t fit into his line of reality and it messes with his mind more than everybody else, ’cause he tries to lay everything out in his own mind pattern kinda thing. And Pennywise comes along and just shatters everything. And so, for that to happen to him, he’s definitely the most scared.

FF: Have you read the book? Was it something you were excited about or were you learning about it on the job?

Wyatt: Yeah. Definitely the latter. I was definitely… I was aware of the story, the clown, the evil clown, and he kills kids and whatever, but when I got the part, I was like, “Well, now I need to study up.” So that’s exactly what I did. I Googled the characters, I Googled the story, the adult’s and the kid’s sections, and I kinda just interwove those and created what I thought was Stanley, and I hope people are pleased with it.

I saw the miniseries during filming. I saw a little bit of it before and then I finished up during filming, but just like clips of the beginning.

FF: Tell us a little about the new Losers’ Club. How do you guys get along? Are you good friends on and off the set?

The New Losers' Club in IT

Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan, Chosen Jacobs, Jeremy Ray, and Wyatt Oleff, Sophia Lillis

Wyatt: It’s crazy. So the first two weeks of filming, they just had us do a ton of bonding exercises, and surprisingly it actually worked and we were able to really just all connect. It was crazy how well and how quick it happened. I would say maybe the third day we all met each other, we had a huge sleepover and it was one of our best memories we’ve ever had. A lot of our inside jokes come from that or just anywhere across the summer. It was an amazing experience just to be with six other of my best friends now and film a movie, which is even more incredible. It was amazing.

FF: Tim Curry was such a big part of the original It. How would you compare the two Pennywise characters for us? What should we expect from Bill Skarsgård?

Wyatt: Honestly, The two Pennywises, you can try to put them together and try to compare them to each other, but it just doesn’t really work that well. They’re two different Pennywises. You have the mini-series Pennywise and the movie Pennywise. Skarsgård obviously does a brilliant job with what he does, and Curry does great as well, but I think they’re both in separate categories, and to compare them to each other is definitely hard. But people are gonna love Skarsgård, he just adapts into the role so well and it’s so amazing.

FF: Did he scare you?

Wyatt: Oh, of course, yeah. He would get into character before they said, “Action!” and we’d all be really scared. I was like, “Oh, no, this is not fun.”

IT Remake: Curry versus Skarsgard

The great thing about him is, is that he doesn’t stay in character. He would really get into character during the scene, but if something would happen or someone got hurt, he would be like, “Oh my God, are you okay?” He’s really caring and he’s really scary at the same time, so it’s a great contrast.

FF: What was it like working on Guardians, and how much different was working on Guardians than It?

Wyatt: First of all, Guardians is an action-adventure movie and It is a very scary movie. So, moving from a light-hearted movie to a really dark movie is quite the contrast. For both, I definitely had to do a bit of crying, so it was kinda similar in that sense. But definitely, the overall atmosphere of filming It was just… It was definitely just looming over the whole entire time. It was just scary.

FF: Rough day. You lost your mom and abducted by aliens in the same few minutes.

Wyatt: Yeah, it was a really rough day.

FF: Do you have any interest in making more horror films after this, or do you want to go in a different direction?

Wyatt: No, if the opportunity rolls around, I’d love to do any kind of Marvel movie. They make great movies. Playing a superhero would be pretty incredible. Obviously, it’s kinda weird on set, ’cause there’s no special effects or anything, and you’re just kinda like… Just doing kinda stupid, goofy things and throwing random things that aren’t gonna be there in post. It’s still awesome, of course.

FF: What superhero would you be?

Wyatt: I don’t know exactly, but not even… This wouldn’t be my final choice or anything, but Spider-Man. The way Tom Holland played Spider-Man is one of my favorites, and I’d love to play that kinda character someday. Just the awkward kinda type who’s still very strong, but just not socially strong. I think that could relate back to me.

FF: Any chance we get to see some of the Losers’ Club in future Stranger Things seasons?

Wyatt: I would say no chance in seeing us, ’cause I don’t recall any times we were on set, but Stranger Things, to me, is a great show. The twist that they left at the end of season one sets up a great story for season two, and I’m really excited to see what comes next. I’ve asked Finn [Wolfhard] not to spoil it for me.

FF: Who would win in a fight? The Losers’ Club or the Stranger Things kids?

The Losers' Club Kids VS the Stranger Things Kids

Wyatt: I’d say Losers’ Club if it was a death match at least. We have a nice big stun bolt gun, so I think we win.

FF: How far along are you into the second part of the IT remake? Have you started filming?

Wyatt:  I have no clue. We’ve kind of been told stuff, but not really. So, we don’t know what’s to come. I don’t think they’ve written the script yet. So, they’re trying to gather all the ideas and the parts from the book that they wanna put in and all of that.

FF: Do you have any secrets about the IT remake?

Wyatt: Secrets… Okay, let me think of one that they won’t get mad at me for saying. It’s not as much of a secret, but I do have a good story.

So, we had a getaway scene, where I had to go on my bike, which was not the best, to say the least. I definitely was not fit for it, I was a little too big. We had to pedal quickly, and I went far down the street, like really far, and the camera kind of stayed in one place, so it didn’t really catch me. But I was super far down and I turned around to look at everybody and I don’t know how, but I twisted the handle bars and my foot got caught in the wheel. So I flipped head first over my bike. Luckily I didn’t hit my head or anything, but I definitely hit the ground hard and it was definitely painful.

And no one saw it happen.

It Remake Losers' Club

Then, everyone was kind of like, “Oh, no, this is bad.” I knew what it was. But the best part is that a couple days later we had to do a scene riding up to somewhere, and then I don’t know how, but my bike, I just had to stop it or something like that, and I just tipped over. Just nothing but plain tipped over. Just fall to the right, that’s it. And I just scraped my knee horribly, my arm was horrible, and there were rocks in it and everything. It was worse than when I flipped over the handlebars somehow. But if you ever see me in the movie with my fists on the ground instead of my palms, that’s because I had an internal bruise on my left thumb.

I need a stuntman to do accidental stunts for me, so I don’t get hurt.

FF: Last Question. What are you gonna be for Halloween, and what’s your favorite Halloween candy?

Wyatt: Okay, I’m thinking Ness from EarthBound, but I’m not 100 percent sure yet. And my favorite candy would have to be M&M’s. Like M&M’s or KitKats, to be handed out on Halloween at least. I love plain M&M’s, but recently they came out with caramel, and I love them. They’re crazy good, but either one works for me.

Stephen King’s world continues to expand with another classic retelling of The Mist. Much like the upcoming It 2-part theatrical remake, The Mist’s “reimagining” will take on a new format as it comes to us as a series on Spike.

The Mist series trailer

The Mist trailer almost has a post-puberty Stranger Things feel to it.

As an unsettling mist falls over a small town, another storm brews below.

What to expect from The Mist

The “re-imagining” of Stephen King’s classic The Mist is almost here, and with the release of new images from the set this past week, we can’t help but focus our attention on the very human storm bubbling up under all that fog.

The Mist on Spike

“…it isn’t just a supernatural storm that keeps the community captive.”

Spike’s The Mist will primarily focus around a community torn apart by a traumatic crime while trapped together by an other worldly mist. But it isn’t just a supernatural storm that keeps the community captive. Each character appears to be dealing with a whirlwind of internal struggles and a mental claustrophobia that rivals the foggy abyss outside.

Alyssa Sutherland in The Mist series

Alyssa Sutherland (Vikings 2013) will star as an “overprotective” mother, and a woman at the center of the towns most talked about crime, forced indoors alongside her daughter (Gus Birney of Bloody Mary) and her daughter’s attacker.

Okezie Morro and Danica Curcic in The Mist (2017)

World War Z’s Okezie Morro will play a soldier with amnesia, his identity trapped away inside his own mind, an identity that, according to Spike.com, will unravel over the course of the show while “shocking secrets [are] revealed.”.

The Mist “screws with your mind.”

Stephen King's, The Mist on Spike TV

But internal battles aren’t the only thing this 10 episode series will be bringing to the table and surviving the creatures that the mist produces won’t be easy. The small town community will face trials unknown as the horrifying mist ushers in – to quote a Spike press release:

“terrifying new reality for its residents, putting their humanity to the test.”

Executive producer Christian Thorpe has been quoted praising Frank Darabont’s 2007 remake of the same name, offering hints that the external struggles faced by the characters will be less hopeful and more in line with the shocking Darabont ending.

“I personally love… (Darabont’s) ending, I thought it was a stroke of genius. We are playing around in that territory, and we also know, of course, Mr. King’s ending. And I know Mr. King actually preferred Darabont’s ending. And so I think we came up with our own spin on a very original and surprising ending.”

No matter the direction the show takes we know one thing for certain, we here at FrightFind are looking forward to a rather “misty” June.

The Mist Premieres on June 22 at 10 PM / 9 Central

Here’s a glimpse at the first episode.

After a series of pics from director Andres Muschietti (@andy_muschietti on Instagram) showing a colorful balloon filled countdown, the first official trailer for the highly anticipated IT remake is here!

The IT: Part 1 Trailer

While a horror classic like IT leaves some awfully big clown sized shoes to fill, horror master Stephen King has given the film his blessing, tweeting the following just this past month:

Planned as a two part release, IT: Part 1 -The Losers’ Club will focus on everyone’s favorite Derry, Maine school children and their nightmare inducing nemesis, Pennywise the clown. And while the sequel hasn’t nabbed a green light quite yet, if the movie lives up to the trailer we’re sure to see the Derry children back as adults soon.

The Cast of IT

The film has a notable cast, including Megan Charpentier and Javier Botet of Guillermo Del Toro’s horror hit Mama (as Gretta and The Leper respectively), Stranger Things actor Finn Wolfhard as Richie “Trashmouth” Trozier, and Jaeden Leiberher of St. Vincent fame as “Stuttering Bill” Denbrough, leader of The Losers’ Club.

But it is perhaps the choice of Bill Skarsgard as the shape shifting Pennywise that has everyone most excited…and horrified. Speaking to Collider.com, Producer Dan Lin had this to say regarding Skarsgard’s audition, “You’ve had Ledger doing almost a clown joker, you’ve seen obviously Tim Curry as a clown. We wanted someone who created a Pennywise character that would stand on its own and Bill came in and created this character that frankly freaked us out.”

After viewing the trailer ourselves, it’s obvious Skarsgard has kept his monstrous momentum up and Lin isn’t the only one “freaked out” by his performance. But don’t just take our word for it, watch the first official IT trailer for yourself.

IT is scheduled to hit theaters September 8, 2017.

ET brings us a new look at Pennywise the Dancing Clown from the 2017 IT remake. The first look at Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise got everyone’s attention. Now, the clown gets even more sinister with a peek at his hellish clown suit from another age.

“There is almost a doll-like quality to the costume,” designer Janie Bryant told Entertainment Weekly.

The full frontal of the clown suit is more authentic than the original Pennywise played by fan favorite, Tim Curry. Designed by Emmy winner Janie Bryant (Deadwood & Madmen) the costume resembles clown garb from a much different era. The clown suit has Grimaldi-esque features. Joseph Grimaldi’s famed “Joey” the clown of the 1800s has inspired clown makeup and attire down through the ages. You can see some semblance in the form-fit arms and legs as well as the Fortuny pleated collar.

Grimaldi The Clown

We still don’t know too much until we see Skarsgård’s Pennywise in action as these images are definitely treated. In comparison, the colors are not as loud as Curry’s original. Curry’s clown looks more like the one that shows up to your house to blow up balloons while the new Pennywise resembles a clown from the theater with a hint of Mime.

Pennywise Comparison: Curry versus Skarsgard

The remake of IT is synonymous with the remake of Pennywise. So far, so good.

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the challenger in the blue corner: Standing in at 6 feet 4 inches and hailing from Vällingby, Sweden. He barks. He bites. He’s Bill “Don’t Cha Want It?” Skarsgård!!!

And in the red corner: Standing in at 5 feet 9 inches and hailing from Grappenhall, England. Rated by many as the best pound for pound Pennywise there will ever be! The legend and current champion of the world … Tim “The Dancing Clown” Curry!!!!!!!

Skarsgard, Curry, and Pennywise

There is no doubt that any fan of Tim Curry, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, or Stephen King’s original miniseries IT is keeping an eye on the two Hollywood remakes that made Tim Curry a legend in hearts and minds. It’s not often you have two defining roles win over so many, only to have both recreated at the same time. Now, with the much anticipated IT remake everyone is quick to compare Curry to his youthful Pennywise successor, Bill Skarsgård. While Tim Curry has transcended his roles, it may be a tough bout for Skarsgård who has been quick to point out that he will not be trying to recreate Curry’s performance in IT.

“Tim Curry’s performance was truly great, but it’s important for me to do something different because of that. I’ll never be able to make a Tim Curry performance as good as Tim Curry.” -Bill Skarsgård

Recently, the first look at Bill Skarsgård in Pennywise clown makeup made quite a stir. Many fans of the original miniseries have formed their opinions already, but you have to give the IT remake a chance. The miniseries was NOT perfect. Curry may have been brilliant, but so much was left out of the made-for-TV miniseries that you have to be somewhat excited to see what new technology and a Hollywood budget can do with the story.

If you don’t know much about Skarsgård, check out Hemlock Grove on Netflix. The Hemlock Grove series is based on Brian McGreevy’s best-selling book of the same name and produced by new horror master Eli Roth. Skarsgård’s performance is devilish and his expression is nothing short of sinister. Coming from a family of Swedish actors, he definitely knows how to carry a torch without lighting his own ass on fire.

And one thing’s for sure: They both look good in drag. We did have to Photoshop Bill’s face onto his brother’s body, but you can barely tell, right?

Tim Curry vs Bill Skarsgard in Drag

Only time will tell how Bill Skarsgård will recreate the infamous Pennywise. Until then, it’s all speculation. So without further ado…

…Ladies and gentlemen, from Derry, Maine, Lllllllllllleeeettt’sss Get Ready to RUMMMMMMMMMMBBBBBLLLLLLEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
