It isn’t that Bates Motel, but it’s speculated that the author of Psycho, Robert Bloch, stayed in the hotel before writing the book that inspired the 1960 film. This hotel was established in 1945, having previously been a World War II soldier’s barracks. Closed in 2015, Coeur d’Alene’s Bates Motel is still an icon for Idaho’s paranormal lovers. The original name of the Rough Riders Hotel was The Metropolitan. People expected the town to grow into a large city, which never happened. The hotel was renamed in honor of Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders in the Spanish-American War. Through the years the hotel has been owned by different people and undergone renovations, which usually awakens the spirits.
