Until 1998, this hotel was like any other. Around Halloween night that year, it’s said that a businessman killed himself on the 15th floor. Some people think that the Halloween party that year woke some spirits from their sleep. Ever since that year, there’s been shadowy sightings of spirits on the 15th floor of the hotel. Captain Tibbals built the hotel as a tavern and billiard parlor in 1889. People have reported seeing the captain haunting the halls today. There’s also a woman in a blue dress who is often seen at the top of the stairs to the second floor. She spends a lot of time haunting room four, which seems to be her favorite. She’s often seen peering over the railing towards the mezzanine below. There are other ghostly happenings that can’t be pinned to one ghost. A hotel worker reported that he saw a heavy, glass-and-metal terrace door fly open on a night that wasn’t windy. He didn’t return to that area for a week. Built in 1901 by Isadore St. Martin, the Carson Hot Springs Resort has many ghosts said to be walking within its walls. Isadore was killed on the grounds in 1910. He was arguing with a man on the grounds and was accidentally stabbed in the chest. St. Martin’s wife died shortly after him. Her ghost is the most active, visible ghost on the grounds. The lodge has been around since it was built in the 1926. At some unreported time in the past, there was a fire in the main lodge and a worker couldn’t escape from the fire. She died. It’s her ghost who is thought to haunt the lodge now. One guest reported to the store owner across the street that she was leaving the lodge because of an experience she had.
