Woods of Terror in Greensboro, North Carolina, has been treating the locals, and let’s face it, anyone within 500 miles, to one of the greatest and most terrifying haunted houses in the country. With 16 haunted attractions, amazing sets, and top-notch actors, Woods of Terror is a must-see haunt for any haunted house enthusiast.

FrighFind had the honor of attending Behind the Terror: Daytime Influencer Experience at Woods of Terror, where we were able to take a peek behind the curtain and see what makes WOT click.

Woods of Terror: Behind the Terror

Upon arrival, we were checked in and then went right into a presentation by Woods of Terror owner and icon, Eddie McLaurin (Bone Daddy). This man has been scaring North Carolina for so long that some believe he may have invented Halloween. We did not get verification on that theory.

We also heard from legendary haunter Allen Hopps of The Dark Hour haunted house in Plano, Texas, as well as Stilt Beast Studios. We especially appreciated Allen’s take on haunted attractions when he said, “People don’t come to haunted houses to get scared; they are already scared in life. They come for the laugh and the release that comes after the scare. It’s therapeutic.”

The Tour

It was now time to tour this iconic haunt and all of its gory glory. One thing we noticed right away was the amazing attention to detail. Not only are most of the props real, i.e., animal skulls, crash carts, and chainsaws, but the sets are also beautiful. Eleven’s Nightmare, although not the most terrifying attraction, was a standout and will blow any Stranger Things fans’ minds.

Woods of Terror - Eleven's Nightmare

Adding to the creepy ambiance, WOT does a stellar job of attacking your senses. The music, sound effects, and even smells added to the overall experience in ways that we rarely see. The sound of the pig eating at the Texas House attraction was genuinely unsettling.

Woods of Terror - Texas House

The standout of the tour was Baba Yaga. This is going to be a real hit with guests, er, I mean victims. The amazing design, originality, and detail made this our favorite stop of the tour. We will say no more. Just go see it!

Scares and A Show!

After the terrifying and glorious haunt tour, we were treated to a show. The band was already set up, and it wasn’t long before Bone Daddy made another appearance on the stage.  Not only was he ceremoniously brought out in a coffin, but he sprang out onto the stage to join the band. What more could you ask for?!?!

Woods of Terror Bone Daddy

While the band played, we were treated to a parade of haunt performers who made their way through the crowd. There was mingling, there was scaring, there was unadulterated gore. It was magnificent.

Are you brave enough to face your fears? Enter if you dare, but remember, you have been warned: this is not for the faint of heart. Happy haunting!

In the heart of Michigan lies the minuscule village of Merrill. With a population of just seven hundred and seventy-eight, it’s the kind of place where everyone knows their neighbor’s name, and friendly handshakes and shouts across the street are commonplace. On the surface, life in Merrill seems uneventful, but beneath the quiet facade, a dark secret has lingered for decades.

Two haunted homes, separated by a mere three miles, have plagued the lives of local families. The Midcalf family, desperate for answers, grapples with unexplained and terrifying experiences. Meanwhile, the Pomeraning family seeks closure from the malevolent entity that has made their lives supremely uncomfortable. These paranormal occurrences in such an isolated location raise questions: What connects these two haunted homes? Could there be a deeper, more chilling link?

The mystery of Merrill’s haunted houses remains unsolved, leaving the villagers to wonder about the eerie forces that linger in their midst. Perhaps the truth lies hidden in the shadows, waiting for someone brave enough to unravel it.

A Haunting On Dice Road: The Iva General Store

Haunted Saginaw film series takes us back to Dice Road | WEYI

The current home of the Midcalf family has a fascinating history. Originally constructed in 1845, it served as both the local general store and the post office for the area. For decades, it was the hub where locals gathered, socialized, and exchanged stories. However, as times changed, the store eventually closed down. A new supermarket and an official post office were established elsewhere in the tiny town. The old store transformed over the years, gradually evolving into a livable home, while still retaining its original exterior appearance as a general store.

In 2006, the Midcalf family acquired the property and embarked on renovations. The patriarch, Mike Midcalf, noticed a peculiar phenomenon: a steady stream of people would drive by, park, and reminisce about the home’s antiquated past. Being the friendly type, Mike often extended invitations for tours, but every visitor declined to set foot inside the house.

The kitchen area within this historic home harbors some of the most chilling experiences. Mike’s wife encountered a terrifying incident while washing dishes one afternoon. A pair of ice-cold hands seized her wrists, refusing to release their grip without a struggle! Meanwhile, their son Josh faced his own eerie encounter. Late one evening, he ventured into the kitchen for a midnight snack, only to find himself inexplicably trapped. An overwhelming negative presence seemed to confine him within those walls. Summoning his courage, Josh attempted to pass through, but the room suddenly filled with billowing black smoke. Frozen in terror, he cleared the back kitchen counter, climbed upon it, and spent the entire night in a fetal position, unable to cross the threshold until sunrise dispersed the ominous haze.

However, amidst all the disturbing incidents, there is one family member who captures the entity’s attention more than anyone else: ten-year-old granddaughter Aidabelle. Her connection to the haunting remains a mystery, leaving the Midcalf family to grapple with the inexplicable forces that linger within their home.

Young Aidabelle lay in her bed one fateful night, the room cloaked in darkness. The footsteps—pacing outside and within—echoed through the silence. Her father and grandparents were nowhere to be found, leaving her alone with the enigmatic sounds. Straining her senses, she glimpsed a shadowy figure materializing before her. Its form, an abyss of blackness, seemed to defy the laws of reality.

A shiver raced down Aidabelle’s spine as she closed her eyes, hoping to banish the apparition. But when she reopened them, the figure’s face hovered inches above her, chilling her to the core. Fear clenched her heart, yet she resisted the urge to scream. Instead, she endured the inexplicable presence, even as a searing pain gnawed at the back of her head and neck.

Morning arrived, and Aidabelle recounted her harrowing experience to her father and grandparents. They dismissed it as a mere bad dream, attempting to soothe her troubled mind. But Josh, her father, noticed something amiss. As he reached around her neck, Aidabelle winced. There, etched into her skin, were three deep scratches—a sinister mark left by an unseen force.

Desperate for answers, the Midcalf family turned to paranormal investigators and sought counsel from the home’s former residents. In Aidabelle’s bedroom, an investigator attempted to capture electronic voice phenomena (EVPs). What unfolded was straight out of a horror tale—the recording captured a raspy, demonic voice screaming, “Get! Out!” The walls held secrets, and Aidabelle stood at the heart of a chilling mystery.

The Michigan Hell House: The Pomeraning Haunting

The Michigan Hell House: The Pomeraning Haunting

A mere three miles from the Midcalf home, the Pomeraning brothers—Terry and Dwayne—resided in their own haunted abode. Their home, once a fading general store, had been converted into a livable house around the late 1890s. However, growing up within those walls, the Pomeraning brothers would later recall that their childhood was marred by unsettling events.

In 1974, during a fateful June evening, the Pomeraning family settled into bed. Terry and Duane were abruptly awakened by furious rapping on the east side of the house. The knocking echoed both inside and outside, devoid of any discernible pattern—just a relentless, violent rhythm. Alarmed, their father suspected a possible break-in and promptly called the police.

Retired police sergeant Charles Frisby and his partner arrived as the first responders. To their bewilderment, they found no signs of forced entry or trespassing. Yet, the inexplicable rapping persisted, beating relentlessly in their presence—an unseen force orchestrating the eerie cadence.

The following night, Terry and Duane again heard the same haunting knocks. Their father summoned the police once more, but the outcome remained unchanged: no visible source for the unsettling sounds. This unsettling cycle of nocturnal disturbances and emergency calls persisted for six months. The local police department’s records in Merrill documented nightly dispatches, yet officers discovered no prowlers or plausible origins for the ghostly rapping.

The strain on the Pomeraning family’s emotions was immense. Young Duane, overwhelmed by fear, cried himself to sleep each night. Desperate for answers, state police, state fire marshals, and even a geological seismologist descended upon the Pomeraning property, seeking to unravel the enigma that plagued their home. The echoes of that relentless knocking still reverberate through the annals of Merrill’s haunted history.

As the haunting intensified, the Pomeraning family found themselves ensnared in a web of inexplicable events. One seemingly ordinary afternoon, as Terry, Duane, and their father sat watching television, an acrid scent filled the air—the unmistakable odor of smoke. Rushing to the bathroom, they discovered a singular roll of toilet paper ablaze. The fire department was summoned, yet their investigation yielded no tangible source for the fire. Firefighter David Lednicky, among the first responders, confirmed that no other part of the bathroom bore any damage—only the incinerated toilet paper roll remained. The absence of accelerants defied logic, leaving them with a borderline inexplicable conclusion: spontaneous combustion by an unknown force.

But the haunting did not relent. On Halloween night, October 31, 1975, terror struck anew. A back bedroom within the house erupted into flames, threatening not only the home but also the life of young Duane. As firefighters battled the inferno, Duane’s skin turned an eerie shade of blue, and his breath ceased. Amidst the chaos, the fire chief attempted to breach the attic, seeking any clue to the fire’s origin. Yet, with each effort, a mysterious force pushed back against the attic door, thwarting his entry.

Duane, scarred by these otherworldly encounters, remains steadfast in his belief: Satan himself is the malevolent force haunting their home. But as shadows dance upon the walls and echoes of the past linger, the question remains: Is Duane’s assertion correct, or does an even darker secret lie hidden within those haunted walls?

The Haunted History of Merrill, Michigan

Delving into the annals of Merrill’s past, we uncover a chilling tale from the late 1800s—a time when the village was ravaged by the dreaded scourge of smallpox. This now-eradicated virus, once highly contagious and deadly, manifested as a rash, erupting into lesion-like blisters that inexorably led to death. Desperate for relief, afflicted families resorted to an ungodly remedy: setting fire to their own homes and personal belongings, hoping to cleanse and scorch their surroundings.

The eerie echoes of this dark history resonate in the present. The Midcalf kitchen, veiled in unexplained black smoke, and the former Pomeraning home, consumed by inexplicable fires, stand as enigmatic markers. Could these two hauntings be intertwined?

Enter a psychic medium, who ventured into the Midcalf home, attuned to the unseen currents. Within young Aidabelle’s bedroom, the medium sensed choking sensations and glimpses of fire. But the heart of the matter lay deeper: an angry male entity harbored resentment toward the entire Midcalf family, especially Aidabelle. Why? Because their family remained whole, while his own kin perished. This revelation offers a breakthrough—the haunting, perhaps, rooted in a tragic past.

Imagine a family existing during the general store era, struck down by smallpox. Casualties were inevitable, except for one lone survivor who harbored eternal hatred for anyone destined to inhabit that cursed space. And what of the Pomeraning residence? The heavy fires there seem to point directly to a grim truth: hapless victims of smallpox were incinerated and buried somewhere along this unholy stretch of road.

Today, after a ritualistic cleansing performed by the medium, the Midcalfs claim a greater sense of relief. While uncertainty lingers, the home now breathes with newfound tranquility, as if the malevolent energy has been quelled. Perhaps the restless spirits have found solace, or perhaps they bide their time, waiting for the next chapter in Merrill’s haunted history.  The Pomeraning brothers no longer live in the home that terrorized them so long ago and a new family lives within the home currently.

As the sun sets and darkness falls over North Carolina, the Woods of Terror come to life. Will you survive till dawn?

At its most basic definition, a house is a building or dwelling where a small group of people come together and live. On the surface, a house uses its sides and roof to protect the inhabitants from the vicious elements on the outside. But what if such protection came with a particular price? Some paranormal theorists argue that houses instead bottle up the darker elements and energies created inside them and over decades the home becomes malevolent. A sort of infernal spiritual prison that accepts human visitors who may or may not make it out sane and alive.

Many of these notoriously haunted houses have been chronicled in some of Hollywood’s greatest horror films. Some have stuck truer to the source material and others have taken great creative liberties to ensure that audiences have never felt the same about any house they cross or the horror that lay within it. Just what are some of these haunted houses that have inspired the greatest horror films ever made?

Amityville House

The Real Amityville House

Amityville is perhaps one of the most widely recognized haunted house cases ever in existence.  The Lutz family bought their dream home on Long Island in December 1975, a gorgeous Dutch Colonial Revival that sat on the banks of South Oyster Bay.  The former owners were slaughtered in the middle of the night by their own son, Ronald DeFeo Jr. who later claimed that voices in the house told him to murder his family. Over the next twenty-eight days, the Lutz family endured a living hell as they encountered ectoplasm slime cascading down the walls coupled with freezing rooms and ungodly screams. They fled in absolute terror on January 14, 1976 never to return again.

Their story was chronicled in the famous Jay Anson novel, The Amityville Horror, which instantly became a bestseller. Such a novel caught the eyes of Hollywood producers who in 1979 put the hellish experiences of the Lutz family on the big screen in one of the most recognized haunted house films that have now produced or inspired a whopping sixteen sequels. Today, the house is owned privately and the address changed to deter any members of the public from seeking out the horrors for themselves.

The Exorcist House

The Real Exorcist House

Considered by many to be the scariest horror film of all time. For many audiences trying to mentally cope with such an experience, it was normal to repeat the mantra of “it’s only a film.” Unbeknownst to many people both then and even now, there was very much a real-life haunted house that inspired the highest-grossing horror film of all time, and unlike the film, it wasn’t in Georgetown.

The totally unassuming location of Bel-Nor, Missouri is where the real-life inspiration for William Peter Blatty’s horror novel, The Exorcist came from. A young boy known only as “Roland Doe” was given the gift of an ouija board by a family member. Before long, Roland had opened up an ethereal portal from which a demon emerged and possessed his adolescent body. A pair of priests were brought in to perform an exorcism which was said to have lasted days. The boy was eventually saved and grew up to live a relatively normal life, however, the home in Missouri still stands and while it bears the appearance of an unassuming brick brownstone, it once bore home to a demon breaking through to destroy an innocent human soul.

The Real Conjuring House

The Real Conjuring House

The Conjuring came along to film audiences in 2013 under the direction of master filmmaker James Wan. But this was no writing room creation, as there was a real home in existence that both inspired the film and introduced the world to the most popular haunted house-hunting duo ever known, Ed and Lorraine Warren.

The unsuspecting farmhouse located in Burrillville, Rhode Island was the catalyst for what is now the first film to be set in The Conjuring film series universe. In 1971, the Perron family, which included five young daughters, moved in with high hopes of starting a better life. Instead, they were met with flying objects, wandering spirits in black, and suffered under the many torments of a long-deceased spiritualist known only by the name of Bathsheba who roamed Burrillville nearly a century before. The Warrens were brought in to facilitate an exorcism along with many house blessings. The Perron family eventually moved and the home has had many owners as recently as 2022 when a Bostonian developer confessed to not being able to stay because of the “powerful energy” within the home.

Ammons “Demon” House

Ammons Demon House

Demon House was the name of a 2018 horror documentary from Ghost Adventures host Zak Bagans. The documentary was a smash hit on the indie film scene and grossed so much money that Netflix bid on the rights to the story behind the property (which Bagans also owns) to make a full-length horror film. What exactly was the story behind this tiny, run-down house in Gary, Indiana?

The Ammons family (mother, grandmother, and three children) should have known upon moving into the home in 2011 that swarming black flies would be a bad omen of things to come. The home itself was a possible host to some black magic and ritualistic mayhem that allowed many demons to enter the home. Shadow figures, levitations, and demonic possession behavior infested the family so deeply that the police and child authorities were called to a local hospital when the Ammons children were literally walking upside down on the walls with no explanation. Exorcisms couldn’t come soon enough to cure the family and eventually they relocated shortly thereafter.

The Stanley Hotel

The Shining's Stanley Hotel

Yes, we know. It isn’t a house! The Stanley Hotel is not the name of any horror film that average fans may recognize. However, if you were to rename it the Overlook then you would have conjured up Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 psychological horror masterpiece, The Shining.  Jack Nicholson starred as a tortured writer alone with his family at a secluded hotel during the snowy offseason in hopes of never going mad. Directly from the novel written by everyone’s favorite horror author Stephen King, it’s a film that’s instantly recognizable.  How true to life was this actual hotel?

King himself was in residency at Boulder and stayed at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado for a single evening.  A 140-room Colonial Revival-styled hotel on the cusp of the Rocky Mountain National Park, King’s stay was haunting from the start as he and his wife were the only visitors during the onset of winter and took in the vast size and constant eeriness. In fact, it was a fever dream King had of his young son being chased through the empty halls by a maniac which served as the catalyst for his most famous novel to date. The Stanley Hotel is still in business today, on the list of the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, and takes reservations to this very day.

The Conjuring 2 House

The Real Conjuring 2 House

The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Haunting served as a sequel to the original box office smash hit, however, this real-life haunted house was not found in America. This haunted house was an unassuming flat across the pond in Enfield, England which is a suburb of the London area.  What would inspire James Wan and Hollywood studios to bank on taking their franchise to Europe?

In 1977, a frantic British mother named Peggy Hodgson called the police about the nonstop poltergeist activity in her home, which included moving furniture, sinister voices, and her own children levitating in their bedroom. The Society for Psychical Research headed up by Maurice Grosse and Guyplayfair came in to investigate. What put this haunting over the top and inspired a fantastical horror film was that one of the children was interviewed on tape growling and changing voices that were so disturbing that after the family moved, they essentially went into hiding to avoid bringing about any more terror in their personal lives.

The Winchester Mystery House

The Winchester Mystery House

The Winchester Mystery House has the distinction of serving as inspiration on a dozen or more horror films, series, events, documentaries, and even a ride at Disney (The Haunted Mansion). In fact, Stephen King used the eerie hauntings from the Winchester Mystery House to serve as the plot of his famous Rose Red miniseries. An even more fun fact is that Winchester is such a magnificently haunted house, that King didn’t even write a book based on it and fleshed out his teleplay directly without any fictional basis which is a rarity for the cherished author.

Winchester is a sprawling multistory mansion in San Jose, California that features 160 rooms, 2,000 doors, 10,000 windows, 47 stairways, 47 fireplaces, 13 bathrooms, and 6 kitchens which makes all the more surface area for spirits to wreak havoc. The legend attached to the home is that Sarah Winchester, a wealthy widow to the Winchester Rifle fortune, had suffered both her husband and infant dying unexpectedly. After a seance, she learns that angry ghosts caused the deaths of all the souls that the rifles have claimed over the years. She catches the idea to build a house big enough for them all, hence the Winchester Mystery House is born. However, Sarah wasn’t alone in her company, and the mansion is said to be packed with angry roaming spirits that still have neither forgiven nor forgotten who put them there in the first place.

The Changeling House

The Changeling House

The Changeling was an incredibly emotional, albeit powerful horror film that opened to audiences in the spring of 1980. The biggest coup for director Peter Medak was that Academy Award-winning actor George C. Scott had agreed to star. Scott played a composer who moved West from New York after the untimely deaths of his family only to rent an oversized mansion in which he finds out he wasn’t alone. A standard horror film with a normal plot, was there more to the story?

The real Changeling House resides in Denver, Colorado, and has all the appearances of an enormous, two-story wrap-around. Its haunting originates eerily enough with a real-life composer named Russell Hunter who rented the home to compose musical scores. Constant heavy poundings and banging on all the walls and rooms habitually woke Hunter and he took it upon himself to investigate the home before finding a third-story room revealing the sinister and actually buried secrets that culminated in a hellish spirit taking over the house. Hidden away in Chessman Park, the sinister home still stands.

The Snedeker House

The Snedeker House - The Haunting in Connecticut

The Haunting In Connecticut is without a doubt one of the more catchy, and popular haunted house films that was indeed the inspiration for a popular 2009 box office horror hit. The film starred Virginia Madsen as a fictionalized version of  Carmen Snedeker, a Southington woman who moves her family into a home in hopes to alleviate the medical travelings of her cancer-afflicted son. The film gained notoriety as having one of the more original plots among film critics’ viewpoints in that this unassuming home was hiding its darker past….of being a funeral home.

True to life, the Snedekers had moved into a former funeral home and any unsettled spirits were not all that they had to contend with. Supernatural seeker couple Ed and Lorraine Warren were brought in to check the home out. Via clairvoyance and other paranormal tools, it was discovered that the lowest basement floor of the home had been used for necromancy, a black magic sorcery art used to summon the dead. Their practices also were said to have involved necrophilia and being in a funeral home, such a supply of corpses to use was virtually endless. Dark shapes, brutally cold rooms, and demonic havoc of all types eventually had the Warrens and Snedekers risking their lives until a massive exorcism was performed to settle the house. As of 2023, the Southington home still stands and is held by private owners who have yet to comment on if any spirits have remerged.

The Real Entity House

The Real Entity House from the 1980s Movie

The Entity.  Just that title alone speaks more fear and terror into many people’s psyches, and that is an absolute fact. In 1982, director Sidney J. Furie adapted what ended up being a largely true haunting account of a Los Angeles area woman named Doris Bither. Actress Barbara Hershey played her with a quiet reserve despite being wailed and assaulted (even by sexual means) by an unseen demonic force. But this film did more than chronicle an abusive haunting, it instead profiled this unassuming home in the midst of a bustling Los Angeles suburb.

The real Entity house and its case became famous thanks in large part to parapsychologist and UCLA professor, Dr. Barry Taff who was contacted by Doris in 1974 to examine her home. Taff was blown away by what he saw; arcing balls of unexplained paranormal lights that seemingly appeared, bent themselves, and disappeared almost upon command. The home was believed to have an especially violent incubus that had somehow attached itself to Doris to unyielding ends. Despite some remodeling and additions, the notorious Entity house still stands today as a constant reminder of one woman’s battle with an incubus.

Here is all the latest on everything you need to know about their latest film entitled, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and the shocking details of the case behind it.

The Conjuring 3: Release Date, Cast, and Crew

Series creator of this beloved horror film franchise, James Wan, will be handing directorial duties over to another veteran horror director in Michael Chaves. If his name sounds familiar it is because he directed one of 2019’s overlooked horror gems in The Curse of La Llorona, which James Wan actually produced as well. Veteran film write of franchise favorite The Conjuring 2 and 2018’s mega box office hit Aquaman, David Johnson-McGoldrick will return here once again. Fear not though horror fans, as James Wan will be on board for producing this newest installment.

The Conjuring 3

James Wan, Michael Chaves, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick

Who all is set to return? Naturally, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will be reprising their now-iconic horror film roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren respectively, but will be joining them in this latest chapter? Irish actor Ruairi O’Connor has joined on board with a sizable role alongside actress Sarah Catherine Hook. Rounding out the immediate cast will also be Julian Hilliard, and if his name sounds familiar that’s because he portrayed Young Luke in the critically acclaimed Netflix horror series Haunting of Hill House.

The Conjuring 3

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson with the late Lorraine Warren

So what evil entity will the Warrens be battling in this horror threequel? This time around the Warrens will be called upon to help with a criminal court case involving a murderous defendant who claims he was possessed by a demon.

The True Story of The Conjuring 3

Inspired by real-life events, the original case for this occurred deep within Connecticut in February 1981. A man named Arne Johnson stabbed another man to death and claimed it was, in fact, a vicious demonic entity that possessed him and made him commit murder. This criminal case has particular notoriety for being the first time that a defendant actually claimed demonic possession as a defense in American history. How did this demonic entity come about? According to the Warren’s, it entered into Johnson after jumping from a small boy as the demon escaped Hell. You know, classic demon jumping from boy story.

The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It Trailer

When it comes to horror and the supernatural, nobody is doing it better these days than the streaming colossus of Netflix. Hit series such as Haunting of Hill House, The Santa Clarita Diet, and The Witcher have proven to be a massive success with critics and horror fans alike. Coming off the high critical reception of 2019’s Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, just what exactly does Netflix have up its horror sleeve next?

Netflix’s New Haunted House Docuseries

Anticipated for a late 2020/early 2021 debut is their most exciting and chilling docu-series yet, a look deep inside the most notoriously haunted houses in the United States. This currently untitled series is set to take viewers further than any documentary series on the subject of paranormal activity has ever taken them before.

Just who is behind this deep dive into the macabre and often taboo subject? Showrunner and director for Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes and the critically acclaimed film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile that starred heartthrob Zac Efron as the infamous serial killer Ted Bundy, horror documentary mastermind Joe Berlinger will be overseeing this series. The production studio that Netflix will be working with on the show is based out of Imagine Entertainment which is further overseen by none other than Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard. Needless to say that anyone who might worry about or question the quality of this paranormal activity series should put those fears to rest as it sounds like the show will be put in extremely good and capable hands.

On the subject of haunted houses, just exactly which ones will the show explore in-depth? Anticipated among many horror fans is that Amityville should be put at the top of any haunted house list. The Haunting In Connecticut home, a former real-life funeral home turned into a residence, should be king when it comes to providing the best in horror scares. While those two haunting classics are some of the more well known out there, will it feature any more of the obscure cases that have been known only among innermost horror fan circles? The Lizzie Borden House of Fall River. Screaming House of Union, Missouri that actually shrieks. Perhaps the infamous LaLaurie Mansion of New Orleans, or even the modern-day Bothell Hell House of Washington state.

Horror fans mark your calendars for late 2020/early 2021 for what is sure to be Netflix’s biggest breakout horror hit. Don’t you dare miss this one!

Address

  • : Michigan, USA
  • Paranormal ghost hunter and television show creator Zak Bagans is a man who is on almost a never-ending quest to search for the truth.  This quest is popularized by his own television show, Ghost Adventures.  In creating the show, he hoped to find answers to questions and has said of his paranormal missions, “There are things in this world that we will never fully understand. We want answers. We have worked years to build our credibility; our reputation. Working alongside the most renowned professionals in the field; capturing ground-breaking proof of the paranormal.  This is our evidence”.

Having such a firm grasp on the pulse of the supernatural, it came as no surprise that when Bagans learned of the Ammons House haunting and exorcism of Gary, Indiana, he wanted to step up and investigate how genuine and terrifying it was. Taking his mission to new heights, he did something that was a paranormal first for himHe bought the actual Ammons House himself and chronicled it in a disturbing paranormal documentary, Demon House.

What happens in the Demon House?

    Ammons Demon House

Latoya Ammons, along with her mother and three children, were horribly tormented by demons living in the new home in 2012. After months of battling the demons, as well as the authorities, the family ended up fleeing the home sometime in late 2013. This wasn’t before contacting local Catholic priest, Fr. Michael Maginot, who performed a spate of exorcisms.  While the exorcisms were proven effective, Latoya has refused to acknowledge or speak about what has gone on out of genuine fear of the demons in the house following her and her family.

Upon hearing this, Bagans purchased the house over the phone with a realtor in Gary, and a week later stepped foot on the premises for the first time ever with his crew.  Minutes into his tour of the home, Bagans was contacted by a psychic medium he knew over the phone who warns of a twelve-foot tall demon guardian that resides in the house and tells him to stay far away and leave.  Bagans remains committed and refused to leave.

To get more perspective on what truly happened in the house, Bagans does his best to pursue the whereabouts of Latoya and her family to interview them and inform them that he purchased the house.  Learning of a family apartment that Latoya resides in, he pursued the lead to discover she refuses to meet or speak with him about the house out of further fear that the demons there will terrorize them.

Latoya’s brother Kevin does, however, agree to speak with Bagans and tells him that children seemed to receive the brunt of the demon’s anger while in the house.  Bizarre ritualistic chanting, growling, and domestic violence was rampant.  After meeting with Bagans informally, Latoya kicked her own brother out of her new apartment over fears that after meeting with Bagans, the demons will find them and once again invade their lives.

    Zac Bagans' Demon House

With more and more individuals refusing to speak with him, Bagans resorted to accessing police footage of the home after the Ammons initially fled.  He sought out a local police detective who had been in the home previously and agreed to go on camera with Bagans.  He alerts Bagans to an un-searched area of the home, under the basement steps to discover a patch of dirt flooring amidst a mostly concreted room.  Further discovery finds half melted and used candles that were likely associated with demonic rituals of some kind.   Short on more people willing to talk, as an instance of pure coincidence, a woman pulls up in a car by Bagans and tells him she was a former renter of the home before the Ammons family.

Bagans agrees to give the woman and her three teens a tour of the home to get a deeper perspective.  Giving her name as “Mica” she tells of strange noises and a sense of dread while living there.  She flat out refuses on camera to go down into the basement stating her brother used to live there with her and his room was in the basement and she had constant nightmares of his death.  Mica’s brother was shot and killed only months later after having the dreams.

Midway through the documentary, Bagans is able to locate DCS Investigator Valerie Washington who personally witnessed the demonic possession of the children. This included one of them walking backward up a hospital wall unassisted to a height of over twenty feet, before flipping straight off the ceiling.  She refuses to go near the house or meet Zak in person but agrees to a Skype session in which she informs him she no longer is in the area and had to leave due to the psychological trauma that she suffered and still has to receive therapeutic counseling for.

    The Ammons Demon House

State of Indiana Intake Officer’s Report

Things soon began to unravel for Bagans in his documentary.  A crew member quits midway after being unable to handle the situation anymore.  To quell any skeptics, Bagans arranges for Dr. Barry Taff to check the geothermal activity around the house to prove there is nothing scientifically causing any hallucinations or unexplained activity in the house.   Using magnetic readings Dr. Taff discovers alarmingly high levels in the home.  Personally evaluating Bagans own body, Dr. Taff informs him that he’s giving off a magnetic reading of eight to twelve million times that of a normal human being.

Throughout the investigation, Taff experiences periods of dizziness and swaying.  After his visit, he’s hospitalized into intensive care after his major internal organs all simultaneously shut down.  Mica’s daughter, who visited Bagans earlier in the home attempts suicide.  To help Mica and her family, Bagans arranges for them to meet with Fr. Maginot and an on-camera exorcism is performed on her to free her soul from torment.

What happened to the Demon House?

To get to the bottom of everything once and for all, Bagans does something not recommended by his own crew, he accelerates the situation by literally boarding himself up within the house overnight.  Cameras placed in the home document his constant pacing and informal seances to manifest whatever is in the home.  Odd growls and wrappings instill a paranoia in Bagans who soon witnesses a black mass coming out of the wall from his own perspective and a painful stabbing sensation behind his eye sockets.  Dawn comes and Bagans rushes to a doctor to find out his eyes are crossed with double vision and he’s afflicted with a condition knows as diplopia.  Surgery is ruled out as it could cause permanent blindness, and instead, Bagans is forced to wear prism glasses as he’s informed that his eye condition is indeed permanent.

    Ammons Demon House

In a final battle, Bagans hires a crew that totally demolishes the home as he cites to the camera that the home is cursed and he wants nobody else to become afflicted by it.  True to his love for the paranormal, Bagans keeps the basement stairs and buckets of dirt from the flooring as keepsakes to remind him just how real his mission truly was.
