During the past two years, the film industry has needed to dodge, dip, duck, dive, and dodge some more to avoid total collapse under the weight of the COVID-19 pandemic. Simultaneous delays to both film productions and film openings have caused the release slate to become an ever-changing plate of hodgepodge. January Horror Releases

Scream 5

Set twenty-five years later after the original Woodsboro slayings, a new Ghostface killer has emerged leaving a bloody trail in their murderous path. Original Scream franchise players Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courtney Cox all return along with a new cast of potential victims in Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, and Jack Quaid. Billed as a direct sequel from Scream 4, we are all eager to see what the first Wes Craven-less sequel can do.

Morbius

Blade isn’t the only Marvel Comics vampire that’s used to fighting scores of undead rogues and hunters while searching for a cure. Dr. Michael Morbius suffered from a rare blood disease, and after a failed biochemical experience he was reborn as Morbius, the Living Vampire. Veteran comic book actor Jared Leto is set to star in the titular role as someone who must satisfy an unhealthy bloodlust to survive. Lucky for him, he discovers a criminal underworld chock full of fresh blood to drain.

February Horror Releases

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Forty-eight years after the horrifying events in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Leatherface and his bloodthirsty family are back. When a young businesswoman and her sister take a trip to Texas, neither are fully prepared for the backwoods, chainsaw-wielding madness that an “Old man Leatherface” is set to unleash upon them. Written by Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez, this direct sequel is also set to include the semi-fated heroine of Sally Hardesty from the original as well as numerous visual throwbacks to what made the original film so terrifyingly brutal. Officially confirmed to be a Netflix exclusive release.

The Devil’s Light

A troubled nun named Sister Ann feels a particular calling to perform unauthorized exorcisms against the wishes of the Catholic Church and soon finds herself at odds with her convent. But what happens when the convent soon becomes infested with the demonic, will they rely on Sister Ann to save them? Directed by Last Exorcism film auteur Daniel Stamm and starring Jaqueline Byers and Virginia Madsen, The Devil’s Light is a new take on the highly controversial exorcism horror genre.

Fear

Little is known about this film from veteran slasher director Deon Taylor. Featuring a well-rounded cast to include T.I., Ruby Modine, Joseph Sekora, King Bach, and Terrence Jenkins, upfront we can say that the teaser trailer is one of the most alarmingly violent we’ve ever seen. When a very much-needed celebration vacation is in order, a group of friends soon finds that an airborne toxin brings about a bloody and murderous rage.

Unwelcome

A high pressured couple looking to escape the turbulent London scene exchange trendiness for terror when they opt for a move to the tranquil Irish countryside. Starring Douglas Booth and Hannah John-Kamen as the ill-fated, expecting couple of Jamie and Maya, they soon discover that their quaint new home has previous tenants in the form of ferocious goblins. Director Jon Wright sets up the scares the right way in using one of horror’s most underrated creatures.

April Horror Releases

The Northman

Veteran horror director Robert Eggers, who was the mad genius behind newfound horror classics in The Witch and The Lighthouse, digs deep in his historical horror playbook once again to bring what is sure to be another terrifying hit. Starring Alexander Skarsgard, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Ethan Hawke, the film is centered around a fallen Viking king and the bloody path of revenge that his son takes up in avenging his murder.

May Horror Releases

65

Produced under the watchful eye of Evil Dead creator and all-around horror mastermind Sam Raimi, 65 is set to embrace the little utilized horror subgenera of failed science fiction space disasters. In what perhaps might be the tightest kept plot of all time, very little about this film has been publicized at all because the details are said to be so mind-blowing that any teaser could ruin the film. The only plot details we were able to dig up on this is that an astronaut crash lands on a very mysterious planet and he soon discovers that he’s not quite alone. Adam Driver and Arianna Greenblatt are set to star.

The Black Phone

Perhaps one of the most terrifying trailers to have debuted in recent horror, the insider buzz on The Black Phone is all that and more! When young Finney Shaw is kidnapped by a serial killer and thrust into a basement, he soon discovers the broken down phone locked away with him can receive calls of the undead persuasion. Filmed off a short story of the same name by Joe Hill (son of epic horror writer Stephen King), it’s directed by the mastermind team behind the sinister……Sinister (and Dr. Strange) film franchise team of Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill.

July Horror Releases

Nope

Academy Award winner and newfound horror genre hero Jordan Peele is setting to bring about another terrifyingly new take and likely twist on his favorite genre. Set to star Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun, this film is set to have a much bigger budget than previous Peele films to the point that a quarter of the film’s scenes were captures using IMAX cameras. As far as plot goes….there is absolutely, positively nothing to be found anywhere online or print that can shed some light on what the film is about. The only thing to go off is a poster recently released, featuring a sinister looking cloud amidst a storm straddled over a mountain town. Sequel to Get Out? Alternate universe plot to Us? Aliens? Monsters? Bad weather? Nope already has a hard date of July 22.

August Horror Releases

Beast

The animals-hunting-humans horror subgenera is about to get a lot more bloody interesting in 2022. Popular British actor Idris Elba stars in the soon-to-be horror hunting movie Beast. Elba plays the main role of a father looking to gain more time with his two daughters on an African safari. When the outing goes awry, he and his daughters soon find themselves face to face with a ferocious lion, hellbent on devouring anything it can get its flesh-shredding paws on. Featuring one of the most true-to-life horror film taglines we’ve ever heard…….sometimes the rustle in the bushes, actually is a monster!

September Horror Releases

Salem’s Lot

Horror mastermind behind the entire Conjuring franchise, James Wan helps director Gary Dauberman (writing genius behind IT and Conjuring franchise films) step behind the camera in a producer-heavy role to bring bloody life a much-needed update on the Stephen King vampire classic, Salem’s Lot. When a novelist returns to his childhood hometown in Maine, he soon discovers that an antique dealer may be acting as the front to a thousand-year-old vampire who lurks about the town in search of fresh victims. Featuring one of the most terrifying bedroom window vampire visits of all time, we can’t wait to see what scares Wan’s new film will “conjure” up.

Don’t Worry Darling

Newfound director and actress Olivia Wilde steps behind the lens to bring a fresh take on housewife horror. Set during the 1950s and starring Florence Pugh (of Midsommar fame) Don’t Worry Darling tells the story of a young housewife who unwittingly discovers that her loving husband is harboring a dark secret that is set to change their idyllic lifestyle forever. Almost entirely female driven, Wilde recently spoke on the film’s content which sounds like a total physical and stylistic overload of as much sex, violence, and horror that can be possibly be crammed in a motion picture. Sign us up, please!

October Horror Releases

How will it all end for Haddonfield’s longtime slasher, Michael Myers? Trilogy director David Gordon Green is back once again to finish up what has undoubtedly become a hotly debated horror film franchise as of late. Building off the tragic events of Halloween Kills, Green has been tightlipped on what all is scheduled to go down in the franchise’s swan song. He recently was hesitant to reveal that the film will be set years after Kills takes place and that this will be “a coming of age story” in the Halloween franchise. Jamie Lee Curtis will once again return as the near-tragic franchise character of Laurie Strode, as well actress Andi Matichak as her fateful granddaughter Allyson.

Hocus Pocus 2

Disney scored big in 1993 with a little known Halloween themed film based on the Salem exploits of the witchy Sanderson Sisters. Now twenty nine years later, there’s no time like the present for a film franchise updating. Starring the original trio of Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, Hocus Pocus 2 is set to revolve around a new group of teenagers who will take to the streets to keep the witches from taking over the historic New England town of Salem. Streaming rights will no doubt be used on this kid friendly horror property through the Disney Plus streaming app.

Gearing up for that big summer vacation? Serene mountain retreat all planned out? Perhaps some much-needed luxury spa time at a swanky resort? Or maybe the classic weekend trip to some scenic wine country? Do you want to go to the beach? Before you buy that swimsuit, grab a surfboard or stock up on suntan lotion, longstanding horror director M. Night Shyamalan knows precisely of one secluded beach you’ll want to totally avoid at all deadly costs.

M. Night Shyamalan’s Old: Plot and Trailer

Old is the tentpole summer horror film release that movie fans have been waiting on all year. Both screenplay and directed by Shyamalan himself, this psychological horror film has one of the more disturbing plots in recent horror history. A vacationing family to a seemingly tropical paradise find their dreamy getaway turning into a real-life nightmare as whoever visits the beach becomes trapped and begins to mysteriously age. We’re not talking seconds older here either….we’re talking aging years.

Not only that, but from the looks of the terrifying trailer that just dropped, people are aging at an alarmingly fast rate. As detailed in the trailer, this doesn’t bode well for the little children in the film who appear to chillingly age from seven to seventeen in mere minutes. Even worse, this terrifying aging process becomes a likely endgame of life for the parents. The most gruesome? Not only do bodies age and grow faster to die, but they also decompose just as quickly! While Shyamalan wrote the screenplay, this bloody concept of his was taken from a very original graphic novel titled Sandcastle by author Pierre Oscar Levy.

Old: Cast and Release Date

Just who will be aging and what will be left of them? Shyamalan has one of his most well-rounded and diverse horror casts yet. Golden Globe winner Gael Garcia Bernal stars in the film, alongside one of Europe’s most talented actresses, Vicky Krieps. Rounding out the cast is former Army of Darkness co-star Embeth Davidtz, and ill-fated SAW franchise actor Ken Leung.

True to Shyamalan’s well-known preference for secrecy, the film’s latest trailer still does little to solve the many fan questions of the greater mystery surrounding this paradise from Hell. Is the beach haunted? The ocean tide contaminated? Perhaps maybe the whole picturesque coastline is cursed by evil? Whichever haunted horror hellscape Shyamalan is taking fans down, it’s sure to be a frightening one.

You Should Have Left

Based on the 2017 novel by German psychological thrill writer Daniel Kehlmann, You Should Have Left welcomes back into the horror foray everyone’s favorite character actor, Kevin Bacon. Starring alongside Bacon is veteran horror actress Amanda Seyfried, together they play a married couple whose relationship is on the rocks. Taking a vacation in the Welsh countryside to sort out their lives, they soon found out the house they’re staying in could be hiding nightmarish levels of evil at frightening proportions.

Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island

An updated horror version of the popular 70s television show, Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island presents itself as a total dream, but ends up being a nightmare for those who visit. Guests only think they’re spending a week at a luxury resort run by the enigmatic Mr. Roarke, played brilliantly by actor Michael Peña. They soon find out things are more a blood-soaked reality than lavish fantasy and find themselves banding together to solve the mysterious and murderous ways of the island.

Freaky

If you’re looking for the horror subgenre of serial killing body-switching horror comedies, then directory Christopher Landon’s Freaky is just for you. Actor Vince Vaugh stars as The Butcher, a ruthless serial killer who ends up switching bodies with a seventeen-year-old girl whom he tried to kill using a magical dagger. Together, they fight against both fate and time in trying to reverse the switch, or else it becomes permanent.

Gretel & Hansel

No doubt the darkest take on one of the Brothers Grimm’s most violent works, Gretel & Hansel is a twisted take on the supposed, children’s fairy tale. When siblings Gretel and Hansel find themselves starving deep in the Bavarian woods, they find refuge with a sickeningly disturbed witch who has no trouble serving them up a feast, all in preparation for something even more murderous. A visually dark fairy tale, Gretel & Hansel delivers the horror goods.

Antebellum

A total mind-bending time travel horror film, Antebellum brings about a sinister view when it comes to Southern hospitality. The film stars Janelle Monae as a troubled author who must race against all odds to free slaves from their doomed lives on a violent Southern plantation. A provocative horror thriller, Antebellum is not an easy horror film to watch; there will be nightmares.

Wrong Turn (2020)

A remake of the popular Wrong Turn franchise original, this scare happy film is a retelling of one of horror’s most favored tropes; a group of teens lost in the backwoods who are hunted down by bloodthirsty cannibals. If that plotline doesn’t excite your horror bones, nothing will. Brutal and unforgiving in its kill scenes, Wrong Turn (2020) has one of the more favorable horror film reviews from critics in all of 2020.

Brahms: The Boy II

Why 12 Hours When You Can Have The Forever Purge?

Dystopian action horror film franchise The Purge is looking to conclude its eight-year theatrical series run by finishing off its bloody pentalogy with the most violently satisfying entry yet, deemed The Forever Purge.

Intended to be just a standalone film in 2013, the series’s first entry, The Purge, was a box office hit with action horror fans. Made from a paltry $3 million dollar budget, the film ended up grossing $90 million worldwide and along with movie critics praising the film for its originality, the producers at Blumhouse Productions instantly knew that there could be more sequels and possible franchise out of the film’s concept.

The Forever Purge Plot

For those unfamiliar, the film’s central plot centers around a modern and thriving society where just one night a year for twelve hours, all crime is completely legal….including murder. Low-category class weaponry is used by individuals to hack, slash, steal, plunder, smash, and kill virtually anyone without any judicial repercussions whatsoever. The gruesome and dystopian theme struck a powerful chord with action horror fans who long wondered, what would happen if the Purge lasted longer than twelve hours? Enter The Forever Purge.

The plot to this fifth installment plays out from the title itself, wondering if one night is ever enough. Building off from The Purge: Election Year, the ruling politicians have officially ended the annual purge night….or did they? Purge series creator and writer James DeMonaco team up with eclectic filmmaker and director Everado Gout to bring about the most satisfying conclusion to this bloody series. With some plot details still kept under wraps, the film centers around a couple fleeing from a murderous Mexican drug cartel. Hiding out in what they think is safe haven refuge at a Texas ranch, the couple soon finds out that there is a contingent of deranged people who are refusing to acknowledge the ending of the annual purge and vow to continue the murder rampage….forever!

Purge Release Date and Trailer

COVID-19 interrupted the initial film release to theaters which was originally slated for the early summer of 2020. With a largely vaccinated world now, the film’s distributors fully intend on releasing this all-out violent film in movie theaters this summer, and a new release date of July 2, 2021 has been set.

American Horror Story: Double Feature

American Horror Story….known in social media circles simply as AHS to all the fans, is gearing up on production for what will be their tenth and most anticipated season on the cable channel FX. To celebrate, they’re going all out with their casting by enlisting in the acting presences of none other than Paris Jackson and former child star sensation Macauley Culkin.

Paris Jackson Joins AHS

You read that right horror fans. Series creator and longtime showrunner Ryan Murphy has indeed brought a most newsworthy buzz to the upcoming season. For those unfamiliar and not, Paris Jackson is the only daughter of the most multitalented and enigmatic music entertainer ever….Michael Jackson. Jackson himself was no stranger to horror mediums as he portrayed both a werewolf and zombie in one of the most talked-about music videos ever made, Thriller.

Perhaps the horror acting bug caught up to Paris because she herself also had acting roles of the terrifyingly transgressive kind in feature film Habit, as well as a role on MTV’s horror show, Scream: The Series. As with anything AHS or Ryan Murphy related (such as Netflix’s upcoming serial killer doc “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”) details on just exactly who….or what….she might be playing has been kept under the tightest of plot wraps.

No, AHS Isn’t Going All Home Alone

Macauley Culkin himself perhaps needs no introduction. A child star of the late 1980s and early 1990s, Culkin launched to international superstardom with the Home Alone series. Soon after he finished out his on-screen career with a role as the disturbingly sick and twisted adolescent in The Good Son. Since then, Culkin has taken to hosting duties on his highly popular Bunny Ears podcast where pop culture trivia of all types is encouraged. Given his acting chops and experience, he should be no stranger to whatever wicked storylines get thrown his way in AHS.

As far as what the hotly anticipated tenth season will be about or unveil its theme, naturally, there is little that can be revealed in the interest of not wrecking everything with spoilers. Ryan Murphy did take to Instagram recently to announce that the name of the newest season will in fact be titled, Double Feature. Mercilessly teasing AHS fans, even more, Murphy did go on to say that the season will feature two completely different themes. The first half of the season will be centered “on the sea.” The second half of the season is said to take place, “on the sand.”

Dexter Is Getting Back To Nature And Showtime

“There really is nothing like getting back to nature. My nature.”

These are the first words that everyone’s favorite serial killer, Dexter Morgan, has uttered in over eight long years, and somehow we simply cannot get enough of hearing them.

In case you’ve been living under netherworld rock these past six months and have not heard the good word, the uber-premium cable network Showtime has revived its hottest tv show property ever in Dexter for another season. That’s right, the Miami serial killer known infamously as the “Bay Harbor Butcher”, did not disappear into the Pacific Northwest with chilling finality once Season 8 ended in 2013. For years fans of the show criticized just how the series ended with a lot of uninspiring tie-ups. To counter this near-decade-long grudge, Showtime has made good on giving Dexter another season to help presumably finish out his serial killing saga.

In the latest teaser to drop this week, horror social media outlets and circles have been positively abuzz with grim sublimity over what they may see when the most anticipated horror series ever returns in the late fall of 2021. Breaking down the trailer of course, the dark snowscape could indeed hint that Dexter really did disappear to the mountain areas of the Pacific Northwest, just as far away from Miami, Florida as he could get, and for legal reasons obviously. Added to the snow imagery is that of a giant ax that’s become lodged firmly into a tree stump as a raging campfire lights the background. This also helps perpetuate the fan theory that when Dexter was last seen eight years ago, he took a job as a lumberjack. But about that ax though…….

Many longtime fans of the series will recall that more often than not, Dexter’s weapon of choice was a gigantic butcher knife. But with the lumberjack imagery flowing, horror fans are already agog at the possibilities of Dexter taking out a few bad guys with that very ax!

Dexter Season 9 Cast

Since the info drop from Showtime that there would be a ninth season (though they never said it’s the last….) there have been other casting developments to behold. Perennial movie and tv bad guy character actor Clancy Brown has been unveiled as this season’s “big bad” as he portrays a man named Kurt Caldwell, a quite vicious and evil man who terrorizes a presumably fictional small town dubbed Iron Lakes. Don’t let that tight-lipped and vague description fool you, actor Michael C. Hall who portrays Dexter recently confided in an interview that this season’s story arc in Dexter was one worth telling.

“I was pleasantly surprised that a story emerged that felt worth telling. I wasn’t surprised that it came back in that there’s been an appetite for it, both from some fans, but also from the network. Oh, he didn’t die, let’s do more, let’s find out what happened to him. But I think the surprise was that a story emerged that felt worth telling”.

How about a true-crime series on the lifetime slayings of notorious American serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Jeffrey Dahmer Series Gets a Name

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story will be the official title of this new Netflix series and early reports having it debuting and ready to stream everywhere in late 2021/early 2022.

Veteran Television Actor Evan Peters To Star

When it comes to playing the titular role of Dahmer himself, it’s best to employ a horror actor already in the acting mindset of regularly doing evil onscreen so the translation to characters is more highly nuanced and less plodding. Enter longtime American Horror Story actor and WandaVision superhero, Evan Peters, who not only has been the first actor cast in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, but he is also set to play the cannibalistic killer himself.

Rounding out the cast at this moment in specified roles also includes Academy Award nominee Richard Jenkins who will portray Dahmer’s father, Lionel. Veteran character actress Penelope Ann Miller is also set to co-star as Dahmer’s mother, Joyce. Emmy Award winner Niecy Nash rounds out the cast at the moment in an unspecified role.

American Horror Story Creator On-Board

With such a sizable series that will chronicle the murderous exploits of “the Milwaukee Monster”, veteran horror story experience was a must. Netflix is turning over the creative reigns of the production to none other than the American Horror Story creator himself, Ryan Murphy. Given the lengthy production history between Evans and Murphy, it will be fascinating to see their take on what prompted the real-life cannibal to slaughter and eat seventeen men over a thirteen-year period.

Not Your Average Serial Killer Series

There are many streaming series and shows with serial killers that follow a ground-up, origin story. For Monster, Murphy is taking a vastly different approach as the show will take the unorthodox approach of re-telling Dahmer’s murderous exploits from a point of view from his victims. If anything the series aims to be firmly entrenched in psychological horror, rather than just straight horror itself.

Here’s A List Of The Best Pandemic Outbreak Movies That You Should Be Watching:

The Mist

This one falls under “Supermarket Monster Doomsday Prophet Films”, and it’s a good one. Only from the mind of Stephen King is such a story like this even conceivable as it centers around a few dozen people trapped within the walls of a local grocery store as hideously shaped bloodthirsty monsters stalk their prey from deep within the mist that encircles the store outside. Doomsday sayers begin to furiously multiply inside the store forcing the heroes to decide which is worse: being eaten alive by Cthulhu-esque monsters on the outside or ritually sacrificed on aisle seven on the inside. On your next grocery trip if the parking lot is covered in a mist, then just keep on driving by!

Train To Busan

Nominated for a slew of Asian Film Awards (our Oscar equivalent), Train To Busan is a zombie pandemic film on steroids. The South Korean military can’t contain a virus that turns its helpless citizens into fast and bloody furious zombies. Film proof that quarantine zones don’t work, this horror crowd-pleaser centers upon a trainload of passengers who go from train car to train car using any and all makeshift weapons (along with tae kwon do) to beat back the zombie plague. Surprisingly dramatic and even tearful at times, Train To Busan is a real crowd pleaser and will teach you the finer points of meaty, ground and pound fist attacks to repel zombies. Ya know…..just in case you’re ever on a train….with zombies…..in South Korea.

Rec/Quarantine

The best thing about a film like Rec is that you get a wonderfully transgressive point of view about the infected and highly murderous tenants of a Spanish apartment building. It’s filmed in an almost faux-documentary style capacity as you go deeper and deeper into the dark claustrophobic confines of the seedy building (including a trip to the sewers). For those not digging the subtitles, the American version called Quarantine is every bit as good and gory as Rec and stars horror favorite Jennifer Carpenter crawling for her life in virtually every other scene. Is it zombies? A man-made virus? Witchcraft? Demonic possession run amok? You can’t go wrong with learning the finer points of apartment-style self-defense from the infected in either Rec or Quarantine.

VFW

In this Fangoria produced grindhouse-style crowdpleaser, it’s not so much about the pandemic itself that creates the chaos, but about the lack of law enforcement to keep it all in check. A runaway teen avenging the loss of her sister steals from the biggest war zone criminal in the city and is relentlessly pursued by his bloodthirsty band of drug-fueled cult followers. Taking refuge in a burned-out VFW building, she comes across a quartet of Vietnam vets who are looking to make one final last stand as soldiers against the invading punks. Quite possibly one of the most unabashedly violent and bloody films of the 21st Century, only in a film like this is using a circular saw to carve through wasteland punks a totally acceptable and routine thing to do.

Andromeda Strain

This one is about as old-school sci-fi horror can possibly get. Based on the classic novel by Michael Crichton himself, if you believe in massive military coverup disasters then this one has you covered. Satellites from outer space crash in New Mexico and reveal to have brought back with them an alien virus that literally crystallizes and eventually turns a human’s blood into powder! Racing against the viral clock is a band of ragtag scientists who at the same time try to combat the ultimate nuclear-bomb trigger that can destroy all of mankind! And did we mention that all of this is battled out in an underground Vegas bunker codenamed “Wildfire”?

The Road Warrior

If you want a glimpse into wasteland life post-pandemic, this vintage Mel Gibson smash hit does it better than anyone. Among the many life lessons are: wearing s&m bondage gear makes for perfectly acceptable everyday wear, never trust a boomerang, and fuel will be more sought after than toilet paper for some strange reason.

Outbreak

For those wanting to know just how such a worldwide, man-killing virus starts, then Outbreak has the answer. Not a space alien, but a cute little white-faced capuchin monkey is the cause of a global pandemic of epic proportions. This is a fatal four-way of man vs. military vs. virus vs. monkey and only one of those is going to win it all.

Dawn of the Dead

This one goes without saying in the horror world, but for any new viewers, this is a mega-classic. Zombies overrun the cities, so what should you do? Go to the local mall, board up the entrances, and then bask in unlimited mall shopping. Your only worry should be roaming hordes of cocaine-fueled bikers looking to overrun your mall….but other than that it’s a very rewarding safe house.

The Bay

Believe it or not, Academy Award winner Barry Levinson (of Rain Man fame) wrote, produced, and directed this little-known horror gem in 2012. A microscopic flesh-eating bacteria overruns a seaside community. A graphic and sometimes gory found footage film shows the ravages of infected quarantines. Even more terrifying is that Levinson based his film on real-life accounts of plague victims.

Previous Candyman lead actor Tony Todd explicitly gave his blessing to Jordan Peele in this remake and is rumored to even have a brief cameo in this sure to be horror pleaser.

Dark Harvest

Based on author Norman Patridge’s short fiction hit Dark Harvest, Netflix Black Mirror director David Slade has brought to life one of the more interesting horror plots in some time. Once a year, locals in a tiny town send an unlikely competitor into the cornfields to battle a giant pumpkin-headed horror monster called Sawtooth Jack. Despite a plodded out release, details on casting and the special effects for this anticipated thriller are almost non-existent which makes the chill factor on this one a 10/10.

The moment we’ve all been waiting for….Michael Myers is back in Halloween Kills. Nearly everyone from the 2018 horror blockbuster is back again. Even original director and franchise creator John Carpenter is back bringing with him horror’s most terrifying musical score. In 2006 the Showtime Network debuted a new series with an unlikely hero and plot: a Miami police blood spatter expert who moonlights as a serial killer. Dexter became one of the surprise smash hits of cable television, racking up dozens of awards and even endeared an entire generation of viewers to television’s most lovable serial killer……and he’s back!

Here are five things you need to know about the Dark Passenger!

Dexter is officially back and in the flesh! Series actor Michael C. Hall is officially reprising his role as serial killer Dexter Morgan. There was a time in 2009 where an animated series, Dexter: Early Cuts debuted that Hall voiced even had a graphic novel paired with it. Fans, however, weren’t too thrilled and wanted to see Hall back in live-action form. As of today, the Showtime Network has come out to publicly say the new series will not be animated and definitely will be live-action.
Dexter, for now, will be a limited ten-episode series run on the Showtime Network. While future seasons and episodes won’t entirely be out of the question, as with most television series’, it all depends on ratings and fan reaction. Judging by the amount of rabid Dexter fans out there this should be a non-issue.
Fall 2021. Live it, know it, and circle that time on your calendars as this will be the slated premiere for the newest incarnation of Dexter. Filming has yet to begin so a hard date hasn’t been set, but somewhere around Halloween 2021 would be a more than a fitting timeframe for such a morbidly fascinating series as Dexter.
Original Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips is returning. If seasons one through four of Dexter were your thing (who can forget John Lithgow’s creepy role as the Trinity serial killer), then you’ll definitely welcome the news that Phillips is back. Co-President of Showtime, Gary Levine recently commented about doing proper service to fans of the series and only that Dexter’s story would continue if they found a worthy enough storyline to keep him going, and they’ve indeed found one!
Will actress Jennifer Carpenter return as Dexter’s foulmouthed detective sister Debra Morgan? While the presumed series finale tied up almost all loose ends on the series, word around Hollywood is that the story arc for the newest season of Dexter is extremely tight-lipped. Social media for Carpenter has gone dark on the issue. Will she or won’t she? Right now fans are speculating that it’s possible she could so fingers crossed!

The horror master, director, writer, and composer of the first film, John Carpenter took to Twitter in the early hours with a letter to Halloween fans with some most awesome news. Never one to drop teases, Carpenter sent shockwaves through social media when he tweeted:

“The movie is something else. It’s fun, intense and brutal, a slasher movie times one hundred, big time. It’s huge. I’ve never seen anything like this…..the kill count…..”

Sounds to us like Haddonfield is about to get bloodier and have more bodies stacked up than it has ever had before!

Halloween Kills Cast

Major players and more are back. Eternal scream-queen Jamie Lee Curtis, sequel survivor mom and daughter duo of Judy Greer and Andi Matichak. Want a blast from the 1978 original? Actress Kyle Richards returns as the now-grown Lindsey Wallace. Even better is that eighties cult actor Anthony Michael Hall has been cast in the role of the equally grown Tommy Doyle. The writer from the 2018 hit, Danny McBride has done a solid job along with Scott Teems punching up the script for the sequel. And return director once again (with John Carpenter’s blessing of course) is David Gordon Green.

Comedian Chris Rock is set to star in Spiral: From the Book of Saw. Rock has admitted that this role in this horror film is quite out of the element for audiences who enjoy his comedic work, but he has doubled down on his role in the film as a quite serious and level-headed detective. Horror fans can be assured this will not be a comedy-heavy film. The second casting bombshell is the newly disclosed role to be played by Samuel L. Jackson! No stranger to horror films such as Snakes On a Plane or 1408, Jackson’s addition to the cast is more than enough to give this franchise reboot a boost. Rounding out more of the cast will be William Schenk and Marisol Nichols in undisclosed roles.

Also, former longtime producer for the series Oren Koules is back as well, ensuring fans that despite the soft-reboot treatment, Spiral will once again contain some of the most torturous and bloody Jigsaw traps we have ever seen!

Speaking of Jigsaw himself, does longtime franchise veteran and horror master Tobin Bell appear in this film? For now, any trace or word of his presence in the film has been kept a huge secret.

Six Sinister Sleepover Games

The sleepover is one of the most important adolescent rites of passage that can ever be experienced. Gathering up an assortment of your best and most personal close friends, you engage in a virtually sleepless overnight binging on prank phone calls, wanton gossip, horror movies, and junk food to the point of unbridled hedonism. However, at some point, these youthful conversations run dark and deep. Ghost stories are interjected with seriousness until someone proposes to play a supernatural game. Six Sinister Sleepover Games……that we don’t recommend you ever play!

Ouija Board

Known throughout the world as a spirit board, this communicative board has served as an unholy pathway to contacting the spirit world for centuries. It wasn’t until 1901 when an American businessman named William Fuld acquired the patent rights (that eventually ended up in Parker Bros. hands), to the Ouija Board. Using a spate of numbers alongside the alphabet and “yes” or “no” commands, people ask virtually anything of the spirit world. Despite the harmless appearance, the Ouija Board has done more harm than good, causing untold numbers of demons and paranormal havoc to come through! This dangerous sleepover board game has been labeled as “highly dangerous” by Catholic exorcists for a reason!

Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board

Popularized in the 1995 cult film, The Craft, this scary sleepover game is wholly physical. One person lays on the floor as four other people surround them. Using only two fingers each underneath the person’s limbs, the volunteer is asked to visualize being dead in a coffin. Then the group chants, “Light as a feather, stiff as a board” and ever so slowly begins to raise the person from the floor and soon the person is completely levitated as if weightless! The origin of this bizarre scary sleepover maneuver actually has a history dating back to the late 1600s, when a British naval commander witnessed a group of young French girls performing this mock levitation!

Bloody Mary

The “truth or dare” portion of the sleepover is always an expected one. Rather than tell the truth, most insist upon the dare and the Bloody Mary dare is almost always used. The unlucky participant must enter into a bathroom or any other where a mirror is positioned with only a candlelight to accompany them. With their back to the mirror, they then begin calling up on Bloody Mary by chanting her name thirteen times. After the last utterance, you blow out the candle, then turn around and face the mirror only to have Bloody Mary’s twisted screaming corpse-ridden face looking back at you!

The Cat Scratch Game

This game is very bizarre and its origins are still a complete mystery today. The Cat Scratch game is traditionally played with just two people. One person sits cross-legged on the floor and the other person lays down with the back of their head resting on the other person’s crossed legs. The person sitting has them close their eyes and they begin to slowly massage their temples. As they massage a poem is recited and dependent upon one of many versions:

There once was an old lady who owned a cat. The cat was very nice it meowed and purred. One day, the cat got hit by a car and died. Cat scratch, cat scratch, cat scratch. The old lady got a new cat and it was very mean. It hissed and clawed. Cat scratch, cat scratch, cat scratch. One day the cat got hit by a car and died. The old lady decided not to get another cat. Cat scratch, cat scratch, cat scratch.

At the conclusion of the poem and temple massage, the person lying down then stands up and raises their shirt to find a mysterious cat scratch raked across their abdomen!

The Red Book

This one’s sleepover origin comes from deep within the heart of Mexico and it is an otherworldly fortune-telling game. The concept is simple with the first step being to acquire a red book. Next, go into a dark room and light a candle as you and your friends are seated around it on the floor. Then you ask aloud, “Red book may I enter the game?” You close your eyes and ask a random question before turning to a random page and placing your finger on a random sentence. You then open your eyes and read the sentence aloud and your question is answered. Players must always ask permission to enter and leave the game or rumored negative consequences could occur.

The Triple Mirror Game

Terrifying and dangerous, this one requires the use of salt lines to be placed across windows and doorway thresholds in a candlelit room. Three mirrors are then used in the darkened room with the first mirror reflecting off the doorway and then the two subsequent mirrors reflecting back off of it. In the third mirror, it is said that any spirits that are nearby will actually appear in the mirrored reflection. With the Halloween season upon us, horror film releases are now in full swing. Zombieland: Double Tap, The Lighthouse, Three From Hell, and Doctor Sleep are just some of the films scaring up movie theatre audiences worldwide. And as 2019 will soon come to a close, it makes horror fans wonder just what will be on the horizon in 2020?

Here are the Top 7 Horror Films coming for 2020.

The Conjuring 3

With a Conjuring-film-universe box office take that has amassed a worldwide gross of over one billion dollars across eight films, interest in this horror franchise is at an all-time high. Warner Bros. has heard you loud and clear horror fans, and with that in mind, everyone’s favorite paranormal investigator husband and wife due…..Ed and Lorraine Warren are back. The Conjuring 3 is slated to be released on September 11, 2020. So what demonic forces will the Warrens be up against is this threequel? This time the film is said to center around a man on trial for murder who claims a demon made him do it. Can the Warrens help acquit him via their paranormal knowledge? Mark your calendars for sure on this one.

Gretel & Hansel

Bringing to life any Grimm’s Fairy Tales is always an event for families as their imaginative stories are timeless and ultimately happy in their endeavors…..sans one of them. Gretel & Hansel is widely regarded as the darkest of their tales and 2020 will be certainly kicking off with a fright. This live-action supernatural fright-fest is already gathering a strong word of mouth buzz based off the terrifying trailer alone. A dark Germanic witch folklore horror film, sign us up. The Witch’s oven preheats in theaters January 31, 2020.

Halloween Kills

A followup to the direct 2018 sequel based on the John Carpenter slasher classic, Halloween Kills will be the second installment in a purported trilogy about Haddonfield’s most un-favorite son. Horror scream queen legend Jamie Lee Curtis will be back as the vigilant survivalist Laurie Strode, once again bracing herself and her family from a relentless attack from Michael Myers. After the events of Halloween, the Strode family is working to piece together their lives, but as the dreaded holiday comes around once again will Michael be able to finally kill off his family? Halloween Kills opens October 16, 2020.

Fear Street

Adolescent horror author R.L. Stine’s second most viable book series is about to come to the big screen in June 2020, as Fear Street is set to hit movie theaters. Horror novel fans have been waiting over thirty years for this particular franchise to come to life after the success of Stine’s other horror property, Goosebumps, took off at the box office in 2015. Fear Street will be a film similar to Goosebumps, in the sense that it will contain an amalgamation from some of Stine’s most terrifying novel plot lines. Don’t think for a moment that Fear Street will be for kids, as that novel property always contained a deeper and much darker twist.

Fantasy Island

From 1977 to 1984, Fantasy Island was one of the more feel-good television shows that brought to life fantasies for people looking at a chance to have them fulfilled on a lush island paradise. Of course, it is only natural that not only will a reboot of the show take place in movie form, but that it has been repackaged into a supernatural horror thriller. The island was always a mysterious place, but just how deep and dark does all that go? Starring character actor Michael Peña and horror veteran Michael Rooker, we can’t wait to look for de plane on February 14, 2020.

Last Night In Soho

Hotshot action comedy director Edgar Wright had a realization this past year that not only has he never made a film in central London but that he’s also never made a horror film. With quite a filmography including Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim, and Baby Driver, Wright is looking to change things up cinema-wise. Currently a release date of September 25, 2020 has been set by the studio, but what’s the plot? In typical Edgar Wright fashion, he has flat out refused to give any details on his new film which he has vaguely termed as an intense “psychological horror-thriller.” If pictures are worth a thousand scares, this is going to be a good one.

A Quiet Place II

A Quiet Place was the breakout horror hit in 2018. It was one of the most unique horror films ever made that seemed to command theater audiences to physically be silent as they listened to what unfolded in the taught horror thriller. The hotly anticipated horror sequel is set to premiere on March 20, 2020. But what is the plot and cast situation this time around? Added to the cast are acting great heavyweights Djimon Hounsou and Cillian Murphy. What can we expect for the plot? Return writer and director John Krasinski is refusing to give out any details to keep the surprises as shocking as he can, with the only hint being offered up that the film will involve brand new, and original concepts not featured in the first film.
